hi, my problem seems to resemble the one My Car Keeps Stalling!!!!... by RU2SLOW
well anyway, my car dies at idle.. basically it runs fine but as soon as i engage the clutch and the RPM's fall, the engine just stalls
i have tried to figure it out, but when i have the car sitting on my driveway and get it warmed up and rev and everything, it doesnt stall
but when i drive a short distance and the engine gets warm, it starts to stall instead of idle every time

i am currently waiting for new spark plugs, plug wires, and a thermostat which will be installed within a few days
my BISS screw is not missing, its screwed in all the way though

The biss screw is not supposed to be screwed all the way in, unscrew it two full rotations and see if that helps(thats the stock setting).

my 92 AWD had been doing the same thing within the past year or so...it was really obnoxious comming to a stop light or going around a corner and having the car die when I disengaged the clutch. My car also got worse as the car got fully warmed up.

what did i do to fix it? actually quite a few things...and the idle still isnt quite right yet in my car either. (but it never dies anymore). the plugs, wires and thermostat couldnt hurt you to replace. (id recommend a 180 F t-stat instead of the stock 195 F BTW). some other things you might want to try:

-remove entire throttle body assembly from the car. unscrew anything that will, and take apart whatever can be. (id not touch the throttle spring or the throttle plate however). take all the electrical parts such as the ISC motor and TPS off. get a bucket of carb cleaner and dunk the whole thing overnight. just get every speck of dirt off of the part you can. allow to dry before re-installation. a couple of cans of compressed air with straw help alot.

-replace ISC motor ($205...ouch) much easier with TB out of car.

-remove EGR valve completely. you can get a blockoff plate for like $10. much easier to do with TB out of car. (EGR is attached to the intake manifold right below the TB.)

-make sure BOV isnt vented to atmosphere.

-reset BISS screw. (do a search).

Shabby is right, you will not be able to idle with the BISS screw all the way down.... I know because mine is adjusted that way right now... I blew out 2 BISS screws in less than 24 hours, right now I am on the 3rd one which is bored temporarily out of my friends race car...

So until I get some more BISS screws in reserve, I have it turned all the way down and tape on top of it to make I don't lose another one!

The car doesn't idle for crap!!

same thing used to happen with me so i just set the idle higher and havent had a problem...but lately since i dont drive it alot anymore once i press on the gas the rpms drop to like 500 and it almost stalls but it rights itself...i dont konw:confused:

im gonna be running into the same prob, i just bought a GSX(didn't pick it up yet) and the thing idles like shit, i ran that by a few people and they told me, #1 major air leak somewhere, hose might of blown off, #2 o2 sensor, #3 BISS screw, #4 MAS, maybe you should check the o2 sensor... just my .02...

you have prolly heard it a million times but if ur car is having idle problems, MAK SURE YOU ARE VENTING BACK TO THE INTAKE,and clean out that throttle body good, here have a tree if ur not venting to the atmosphere :tree:

i put in the new spark plugs, wires, and thermostat today and then i drove around town for about a half hour and the engine never stalled once

now, i've noticed that i am getting a fuel cut very early after the turbo spools, so i think i had better take car of my MAS soon

thanks for the replies

Did you also adjust your BISS screw??

yes, i unscrewed the biss screw by about 2 turns as recomended, and its idling at an almost perfect 750rpm
My guess would be thats what fixed your problem.

I aggree with that... in fact if you wanted to prove that the adjustment on the BISS screw was or was not the solution, screw the BISS back down all the way and see how it idles :)

Sometimes it is amazing how small an item can be and have it makes such a huge difference??
