ETS Street kit vs Punishment Kit

Alright so I change my mind and figured I'd make a thread asking anyway. It's about time I start looking at FMIC kits again, and so far I've come down to two The ETS Street Kit or the Punishment/CX-Racing 1G kit.

I've had the VRSF 1G kit previously, and hated it. IAT temps got upwards of 130-140* on a 16G at 21-24lbs of boost. Plans are to go with a TD05H 20G in the 3" anti-surge compressor cover. Future plans involve a built G4CS and a twin-scroll HX40 but for now lets just use the 20G as the turbo I'll be running.

Does anyone have any experience with the ETS 3.5" street kit? How were your IAT temps? At what boost, and on what turbo? What about the punishment kit? Turbo/boost/iat temps? Keep in mind I am automatic, so I will have to sit at the line for 5-8 seconds spooling the turbo up, which heats the FMIC due to no air cooling it down. I don't want the ETS Race kit because I really don't want to hack my bumper cover to cool that 10.5" tall big boy. But if I have to, I guess I will.

Any help/opinions are much appreciated.

I can't give you personal advice on the 3.5", but I can find my logs and figure out what my IATs were when I ran my 20g @ 26psi and post it here. It'll give you an indication of the difference between the 3" core and the 3.5" core if anything.

That would be awesome. I was curious if you'd post because you've got the kit I'm looking at. If the 3" was enough for you, it'll be good for me too. Far in the future when the built G4CS/HX40 goes in, I'll just buy the Race intercooler upgrade from ETS.

My numbers may also be a little skewed...the only heat shielding I had on my exhaust components was on my external dump tube. The manifold and o2 housings had no shielding. Had I shielded the exhaust and the filter I would probably have lower numbers. I'll grab a log or two when I get off work later today and post up my IAT numbers.

Hell yeah, thanks Dustin. Throwing a heat-shield on my turbine housing/02 housing, and over my exhaust manifold dropped temps a retarded amount. I saw IAT's go down 15* in some spots. Then again I had crap-ass aluminum piping. I bet with the stainless steel piping/kit from ETS it wouldn't be so susceptible to that. I'd rather give my money to a vendor like ETS or Punishment that has supported our DSM's for years and years, instead of to a company like VRSF that isn't going to carry any more FMIC kits because, and I quote "DSM owners are the cheapest I've dealt with yet".

So. ETS, JNZTuning, ExtremePSI, and etc FTW!

I'm a little worried about fitting the ETS Street kit, as my "crash beam" essentially is just the two posts that bolt onto the front end, lol. So if it bolts to the crash beam...there might be a problem. I supposed I should call them up and tell talk to them/let them know that so they can weld on tabs so I can mount it on the core support.

Thing is im NOT cutting up my bumper cover, and want to use the JMF race bumper. I have hacked up my actual bumper to fit my previous FMIC and cut the underside of the cover to allow for more air to go up and hit the top of the FMIC.

Not sure how a different FMIC will work, with the JMF piece but it's only 2lb, the cut bumper is obviously a lot lighter, but I want the JMF piece to help offset the weight of the FMIC so im not actually increasing the weight up front much. The concern is how the two will work together. And then I have to build some sort of ducting cause im not going to deal with over heating issues like with the last FMIC. So selecting the street or race unit actually matters a lot potentially as far as fitment goes.

I've been on my feet in the kitchen from 9am until just now(10pm). Haha. I'll call them when I've got cash in hand. I don't want to waste their time if I don't have cash in hand to say "okay cool, I'll take it".
