I know they both have a 4g63 engine, but the Evo has like 80 more horsepower stock. I also know the Evo has a bigger turbo and higher compression, but what else makes it so much more powerful?

depending on year - larger turbo, higher stock boost, better intercooler, higher compression(?) larger injectors, different tune, and I have heard the cams are different(but no idea on the truth to that)

The t25 on the 95+dsm stinks, but the 95+ get 8.5:1 compression. Also the 2gbov stinks, as does the 2g intake manifold. Slap the 1g intake manifold on, a 14b turbo, and a 1g bov and suddenly you have more power.

80hp in a dsm isnt very hard to get at all.

Evo is totally different car. Different chassis, different suspension, all of which blow the Eclipse away.
I've looked under the Evo and it is all 1G, front and rear suspension both look like 1G.

I couldn't agree more!
The question is, with $30K to spend, would you rather buy a brand new-mildly moded (271HP) 4g63 family looking sports car, or get a cheap used sporty Eclipse (2g or 1g ) and mod it from scratch?

for 30k to spend you could come of with one heck of a ferrari eater out of a 1 gen:p i could only imagine where that money could be spent:D btw this should probally be in the lounge

Besides the benifit of having a nice new car (even tho 2g's are still pritty easy to find in new condition)

The EVO doesnt have crankwalk nor grindy PITA tranny

But downfall IMO is the 4 door :(
Bro, with $30K you won't have a crankwalk!

He's saying you won't need to worry about crankwalk with the 2G because you'll most likely have a beefed up 6-bolt in there, or even an evo motor if he wanted to. Either way, he meant no CW on the 2G either.
Exactly! Here is what I will do with a$30K:

Used 2g (One with a blown motor will be cheaper!) $7000

Basic upgrades (stages 1 through 5, http://jumptronix.com/2g_go_faster/) $5000

Drivetrain (BMTranny race tranny, Fidanza, ACt2600) $3000

Engine(Buschur 500HP-stage 2 Block/Head, Accessories) $4000

ECU and Ignition (DsmLink, MSD DIS-2) $1000

Big brake upgrade (Baer Claw Pro Brakes) $2000

Handling (Shocks, springs, sway bars, tower bars) $1500

Wheel and tires $2500

Miscellaneous (Pulleys, cam & cam gears) $1000

Labor (Engine $1000, Tranny $500, Other $1500) $3000

Total estimate: $30,000
All is left is for you to tune the beast to deliver the 500 HP!!!

It may just be my own opinion, but I think that having a nicely tuned 4G63 in an EVO with a warranty would be nicer than having a worn out 2G or 1G, but I still think that the 2G look is way better than any EVO. Something about altezzas makes me wanna :puke: , but warranties are really nice also.

If I had a choice between a DSM + $25000 worth of mods or a new evo... Id take the damn evo. Ive had a 4g63 ever since I was 16, so why not upgrade to the baddest 4g63 ever made in america (jap spec evo's are much better :( ). WAY more technology went into this car than the DSM's. Handles better, accelerates quicker, and stops faster. The suspensions have a similar setup, but that doesnt mean the are the same. The chassis is much more rigid, springs are much stiffer, among other things. But I do agree that they need to restyle it. Does any know if they are coming out with a 2 door?

Check out all the specs:
http://www.lancerz.com/php/e8/e8_fullspecs.php

The thing that caugh my eye was the transmission. 3 synchros in 1st and 2nd, and 2 synchros in 3rd. Even has 2 synchros into reverse... DSM's dont even have a synchro in reverse... we have a damn reverse idler gear. Looks like mitsubishi is finally getting it together.

Dont get me wrong, I love my DSM. If I didnt love it, I wouldnt have rebuilt the tranny twice and the motor three times  . DSM's have a tendence to fall apart. Now that I think about it, I spent $8000 for my car and have spent about $15000 in repairs. That leaves me with only $7000 left to mod with.

Also check out http://www.pruvenperformance.com , they already have an evo shop car.

If you mod an EVO wont that void the warranty?

depends on how much of what you mod. Bolt-on's don't void it, but it's the 4G63 with a warranty that doesn't need to be modded to be fast really, unless for some reason you're trying to make a sedan into a drag car :dunno:

I'll take a 2g you can have the overpriced EVO.

Coil overs, springs, STB's that work, light wheels, good tires etc.

The insurance is going to be higher on an EVO and it will attract IMHO the wrong kind of attention.

I have factory wheels on my car now. The only give away about my car will eventually be wheels since they won't clear the brakes I'll be running.

I've got some tricks up my sleeeve for this ride. When it's all together I'll do 1/4 mile, skid pad and other stuff with the car and compare the little bit I spent to for preformance to the price of an EVO or what someone spent on their EVO.

There is no point in comparing modified cars to stock cars. And if you're going to bring in the price issue there's always a cheaper car you can get to go faster. So what is your point? Someone should never buy a Ferrari because you can make your 2g faster for cheaper?
