B: anyone used a ebay external O2 housing?

Granted they are both on the cheep end, but its also for an expiriment to see if I can get it all working and running. So I was curious if I should wait longer and get more commen stuff. What say you folks? Only people who have used them please I am well aware of the EBAY Haters.

I got one too. I wouldn't say it threw off my exhaust alignment by any means, actually it took very little effort to bolt up. The only problem I had was with where the O2 hosing met the turbine housing. The flange surface was not quite flat. A good 20 minutes with the belt sander took care of that and it was solid for a good 5,000 miles before I tore the car down, in no way related to the O2 housing whatsoever.

After 5k miles, the housing did show some yellow-goldish look to it, but is to be expected from any stainless tubing as even quality stainless does turn colors from heat.

Cx Racing makes decent stuff but its nothing that you would expect 15,000 miles out of by any means. If you are just looking for something cheep now and saving for like a Tial Wg then I would buy the Wg from Cx racing for now. Don't expect anything spectacular though.

Ok, fittment may be the biggest issue with those. I was wondering how long they may hold up though, a year or so is enough to get all the bugs out and get ready for a permanent system.

I know punishment racing is now making mild steel o2 housings, for a few bucks more, it may hold up better as I always read of cheap manifolds cracking (could go the same for an o2 housing)

As for the gates, I mostly read about the internals being weak and breaking down or having issues.

Not to hate, but if you have the money for those parts, work a bit harder or sell off some old stuff to get the money for known good parts. Otherwise you could just be throwing money away. Why do things twice?

I'd go for the mild steel Punishment Racing one before ever touching an eBay housing again.

That said mine has been one my car for over a year now with no issues.

Really its because i dont actually know if all this wll work. If it will fit up and not blow up. So instead of spending $500-600 on high quality parts, if the masses have had decent luck with the less expensive stuff then I figure its a shot.

Easier to be ok with lossing a couple hundred if it doesnt work out, then drop twice that be out more. Thats all. And if they all fit and work, then I know my money is worth the spending.

Problem is this. If the CHEAP waste gate fails, its going to take out more than $500-$600 worth of stuff, it can take your entire engine with it.

Why spend $100-$150 to buy a cheap Waste gate only to spend $250 later on to buy the real thing and then not be able to sell the knock off? Buy it one time and buy quality.

Ya, whats the chances of a Cheap ebay o2 housing not fitting with a good wastegate? Prolly should just save and get both the same ones so I know it fits and wont break. Even though the motor I am going to be trying this on is a spare so blowing it up isnt something I will be surprised at anyway.... point is if t works I would be hapier in the end knowing it was quality.

Thanks for the replies I will consider it all.

I am actually temporarily running a ebay wastegate made by emusa on my hx40 setup right now. Its a knock off of the tial mv-s wastegate. It looks like a pretty solid knock off, and I was only able to test it for about a week before I left the country. But it seemed to hold boost and work great. I can not comment on longevity of the part though, so I will not know how it holds up until I get back to the States.

Honestly if you have the cash, go with legit parts like tial. I would rather not support knock off parts like this but cash was tight and needed the car running. And it was only $50, so if it did break its not like I'm loosing a ton of money.

Here is the wastegate I got.

Cash is tight so you cant risk spending it on quality parts yet you can buy a inferior product and risk your more expensive engine and possibly your life on what should be a expensive paper weight?

Smart move.

Even good stuff breaks. This argument is exessive and I allready knew the ebay haters argument. As I stated in the original post. And so far have not had anyone who actually has them giving a bad review, other than fitment.

VR Speed factory external wastegate housing 278.99.
Tial 38mm wastegate 228.99.

Ebay wastegate housing 119.99
Cx racing wastegate 89.00.

507.98 to 208.99.

Thats a $300 dollar difference for a non DSM vehicle where cutting and manipulating parts may be required. And with no bad review of people getting killed and parts breaking and exploding randomly, I think, for all the haters and twisters of words, this a fair and reasonable option. Opinions noted.

The Emusa wastegates are known to be good and they will accept a Tial diaphragm should you want to swap out the internals for some reason.
