It's safe to run the side mount to any range you want, but your power will disappear quickly because you can heat soak it if you're doing multiple pulls. If you're just DDing the car, and most of the time will driving will not be boosting, I'm sure it will be just fine.

I'm going to run my side mount with my Big 16g until next year. But I'll be stock boosting.

Also, because I'm just curious...do you have the other mods to support 20psi?

With a 16G running 20 psi, that factory sidemount will get heatsoaked after one run. Between the small opening it has tucked behind the foglight and it's relatively small size, it's not an efficient design. You're better off keeping the boost down until you get a better intercooler.

 

I run the S16G. I used to run it with the stock SMIC. 17 psi was the highest I was able to do. After 1-2 hard pulls, it was heatsoaked. I ran 20 a few times, but heatsoaked it immediately. I also had supporting fuel mods. That's with hard upper and lower pipes. Do you have a BOV capable of holding that much?

 

Could go with water/meth injection. Have it come on at 9psi. Chemically cool the charge. Buick guys have been doing it for a looong time

I agree with the posts above. I ran the stock sidemount with my small 16g for quite a few years at 21 lbs but usually with a little race gas mixed with pump gas for added safety against detonation. It's fine for short bursts but I wouldn't recommend standing on it for long periods of time as it will definitely heat soak.

I have a walbro 255 510cc injectors and 3" downpipe back exhaust no cat. im getting a 3" downpipe with a bung for my brothers wideband soon also

 

You can run it at 20 psi but you better be logging and monitering for knok because of the heat soak.

 

Anyone who says that a stock SMIC will heat soak "after" one run has never logged post-IC charge temps. At anything above 17psi, I found that during a 1/4 mile pass the IC was heat soaked at 200+F outlet temps by 3rd gear.

 

In the meen time while on 15psi will cutting out any plastic in the way and taking off my fog lights help? I may also make a small duct kinda like a cold air intake that redirects air towards the SMIC

 

Methanol injection and the sidemount will work just great. Seriously!!!
