this might belong in "Racing" but i figured itd get more views here - you decide Mods :)

I was just wondering what's the fastest anyone knows of someone going with a stock clutch. Im shooting for hig 12's on race gas with 14b, but think that my clutch will be the only thing holding me up.

It only has ~18,000 miles on it now, but im guessing when im making some power soon (have all the parts, waiting for spring/weather to install :) ) it'll be shot quickly

thanks

I ran numerous mid 13 second passes(13.6-13.7) over the summer, never slipped once...now it is starting to slip, time for a new clutch, probably the centerforce dual friction, heard to many bad things about the act 2600...I don't know, still deciding, Mike

I'm going with the 2600 myself... alot of the locals swear by it and the 2100.

My clutch started slipping once I hit the mid 13s and faster mark.

Suppossedly the guy who had it before me only had a few thousand miles on a new stock clutch when I bought it... it only took exactly 1 year to get the stocker to slip! LOL

I have about 8K on a stock clutch, you can really smell that sucker burn if you beat on it. Its doesnt seem to be slipping yet(knock on wood)But I have the $$ put aside for it.
I think its holding me back a bit on the launch, it never grips well and ends up bogging, so that is a problem.

It's bogging because your babying your stock clutch ;) If you dump it from 6000rpm you will smell burning clutch but you will get a better launch. The clutch will die sooner however.
Ya, no kidding.. I dumpped my stock clutch and I just sat there. My engine was reving and my car just sat there. :( Sad day untill I got my new ACT 2600. Dam this cluch rocks.. :D

Just plan on investing into one because you will eventually need it if your car gets too fast. Mine was holding out fine untill that day.. I probly had about 150 launches on that stock clutch.

Yea I know, I had one of my mechanics take me for a ride after he did some work. He showed me the holeshot. The car TOOKOFF, and the clutch burned and smelled like a mofo.
I might as well start kicking the crap out of it now, cause I need that 500 breakin miles before the shootout comes.

Are you talking about kicking the crap out of your current stock clutch? Because if you are, by the time the shootout comes the clutch will be toast. If your talking about an aftermarket clutch you don't want to kick the crap out of it right away, you need to break it in gently for 500 miles.

Well I need the time to put the 500 miles on the new clutch, Plus I dont know the turnaround time of doing the clutch. The shop I go to is very busy and may take awhile for them to do it.
But the shootout is still 6+ months away.
I want the clutch ASAP, but I want to get the most I can out of the stock one.

I Burnt my stock clutch out at 34,000 Miles and babied it for probably another 1,000.

Larse, when the clutch slips, you don't get the power put down to the wheels. So the clutch slips between the flywheel and pressure plate and makes a Rank Ass smell. You'll know if it ever happens. ;)

thats all very odd. I'll tell you my setup:

18g, full exhaust, intake, fuel, afc, 18psi, everything done the way it should be. I've been running this setup on my stock clutch for i'd say... 5k miles (about 15k miles on the clutch), it doesnt slip a bit. I've never taken it to the track and i dont beat on it for no reason so maybe thats why.

dumb question, but what does it mean "the clutch is slipping"??? I don't make hard runs, so I don't know..
You'll know when your clutch is slipping when you shift gears at high rmps and take your foot off the clutch pedal, and yet the motor climbs to the redline.

Re: ACT Dual Friction..

I got my ACT Dual Friction clutch about 5 months ago after my clutch got burnt. I'm just wondering how much lb's can it handle? And is it better then the 2600 one?
HUH? ACT makes a dual friction clutch? Don't you mean Centerforce? If so, I'll have to check around, but I think it's rated around 2500 lb's (<- but don't quote me on that).

sounds like you're not drivin' it like you should with all that power :p

The reason it is lasting for no problem is because the way you drive it... you don't take it to the track and don't beat on it on the street... then you won't have any problem for quite some time...

However, take it to the track ALOT, with the power you have, and you'll be in need of a stronger clutch.
