Crazy, I read your post earlier. It was a really good post, some one should take that information, and some pictures and add it to the engine removal vfaq. That would be a fairly complete guide to removing an engine and replacing it with a JDM engine.

You guys do know that those super cool Red valve covers on the mighty J-Spec engine adds 25 HP, right? Something to think about while encountering all those snags.

Wow  I don't think anybody here is getting one because of the magical jdm powers. Let's face it, unless you plan to build up the engine, japanese spec 4g63s are great engines and also transmissions to get and just plop in. Why go searching through junkyards looking for good condition engines? If you go through a respectable distributor then you will get a fine condition jspec engine. Oh yeah, and one reason I got the engine was the red valve cover. Do you know why? Because Galant VR4s have red valve covers. My car previously had an eclipse 4g63 in it, and I didn't like that. Sure, there are only cosmetic differences, but I want my car to be all VR4.

Buy a cheap 1g and yank the motor

A JDM motor may be worth it if you live in CA or your buddy is selling his for a good price. It is not a 350, but you can't tell me this engine is rare.

Any other pros?

can i leave the jdm oil filter housing on and not mess with it at all or did the japanese take of the cooler in japan?

I useed the jdm oil filter housing with the 90 oil cooler in my 95 gst I went to a hydro suply store and bought a banjo fitting with 3/8s hose barb on it and it works fine . I bought my jdm motor from street imports it was in great shape. Under 30k good comp 180 on all for the motor was at my hose in three days the day it showed up was a holiday
