Which coolant is best for the DSM? Is there any difference between the green or orange coolant?? Thanks

Just get the green. It came from the factory with the green so I'd stick with it. The orange stuff is some new kind of coolant. I can't remember why, but the two should not be mixed.

Lol....

But everyone knows that the orange coolant adds more HP!!!! :D

From what I heard, if you mix the two coolants, there are different chemicals used in each which create a reaction that promotes corrosion and rust in the radiator. You can switch entirely from one to the other, but you need to flush the radiator in the process. The Dex-Cool (orange) coolant is supposed to inhibit rust and corrosion in todays newer aluminum radiators, and has a much longer lifespan than the traditional green coolant.

Then supposedly you should have cooler temps! I haven't tested it out myself yet, but I've only heard good things.

this reminds me....

of the funiest drugstore endcap i have ever seen.

on the top shelf we have bleach. not to bright but not to bad.

then amonia....... ok who hired the manager without a highschool diploma.

then mothballs......

um houston we have a problem.

up the sidestrip were 9 volt bateries....

for those people who didnt pay atention in chem..... thats a major explosion waiting to happen. o and toxic gas for fun

moral of the story?

get it in writing before you use wetter or combine the 2 coolants. you never know what could happen untill some yahoo does it.

FROM WHAT I HAVE READ AND HEARD DEX-COOL DOESN'T ABSORB HEAT AS WELL AS CONVENTIONAL COOLANT[ NOT GOOD FOR A HIGH HORSEPOWER ENGINE ]. IT WAS FORMULATED TO OFFER AN EXTENDED SERVICE LIFE, BUT I SEE A LOT OF VEHICLES WITH RUST & SLUDGE PROBLEMS THAT USE IT. I THINK IT'S BEST TO USE CONVENTIONAL COOLANT & FLUSH THE SYSTEM EVERY 30K. MIXING THE TWO ISN'T RECOMMENDED ANYTHING OVER 10% WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS. I HAVE HAD ACOUPLE OF VEHICLES WITH MIXTURES THAT HAD COOLANT LIKE RUSTY PUDDING. IT TOOK MANY FLUSHES AND A NEW RADIATOR TO GET THEIR COOLING SYSTEMS TO FUNCTION. WE WERE NEVER ABLE TO GET RID OF ALL THE RUST IN THE SYSTEM.STAY GREEN!

That is pretty freakin funny.

Kyle, that is possibly the greatest pic of all time! :D

Don't use the orange!

I found out after I already switched to orange, there was an article in SCC about orange causing corrosion in older cars. My water pump just went out, could be from the orange or it coulda been old. I'm not taking any more chances! Just my 2 cents (the other $500 is going into fixing a warped head :(

I've also read that when you mix the two, other than getting a poo brown color, it also neutralizes alot of the cooling effects of the coolant. So pick one or the other. Personally i like the looks of the gEREEEN! stuff. ;)

the old rule i heard was to use what your car came with, in our case green.

In Writing, I have use it.. It's doesn't do anthing.. it's fine. Didn't really see cooler temps thou.
get it in writing before you use wetter or combine the 2 coolants. you never know what could happen untill some yahoo does it. Personal I'm going back to the Green because I think that it's affecting cooling. I put a FMIC and my car start to over heat on the highway.. I'm going back to green and see if it make a difference.

Do NOT use Dex-cool In any car that wasn't designed for it.
Dex-cool is a acid type coolant. Meaning that as it passes through your engine it cools and also cleans your coolant passages free from coolant build up. Thus causing better cooling(bare, clean metal surface). MORE COOLING
GM Does not recommend this coolant in any car that didn't come factory with it. For the reason that it will eat away at certain gaskets, fitting, and etc. Causing failurein your cooling system.
Now the regular coolant is the total opposite of Dex-cool. It uses a coating process. As it passes through it cools and coats (meaning protective coating)the passages. MORE PROTECTIVE.

This is the truth of the two coolants. You ask how i know??
Just went to a AC DELCO training course on A/C and Coolant Systems. Free for AC Delco Certified Auto repair Shops(me).

Bottom Line DO NOT use Dex-cool.

My boss, a master technician, told me that the dex-cool is absolute garbage. It is intended to be a long life coolant(100,000 miles or so). After that, it turns into like a sludge, jellyish material. He said if anyone I know has it to flush it out and put the green stuff in it. It can lead to clogs and other messy problems. NEVER EVER use dex cool in a car that didn't come from the factory with it. Period.

I've flushed out my orange coolant out. Now I'm afraid that I might have problems down the line. I only ran the orange stuff for 8 months and flush it out with a special flushing machine. I use 5 gallons of water to flush out the stuff and put the green stuff back in.

I had a 97 VW Jetta. It had orange in it stock. It was expensive to replace! Ofcourse, you replace it like every 24k, so the first replacement was under warranty and free, but I still saw the bill
