so if i buy the stupid rip off recirculation kit from dsmparts.com would i still be able to hear the bov go off to make ppls heads turn ? or i just completly wasted my money to get this HKS bov without eveing hearing wat i wanted to hear

First off this should not be in the Help Tech.
But to answer your question, the answer is yes. It still is extremely loud. You will get people to turn their heads.
It's quite the BOV.
You wouldn't be wasting your money. You buy the recirc. kit because you need to.
It's plenty loud with it recirculated. :D

Personally, I have never heard a recirculated HKS...but:

I did a lot of checking up on the HKS recirculation, and from what I've read, recirculating it makes it sound like a little louder 2g stock BOV. It definitely won't sound like all the little HKS clips and videos you've been watching/listening to that are on Supras and WRXs, guarenteed.

What makes the HKS sound so unique is the little "fin" inserts while venting to atmosphere. Since you can't have those inserts on while recirculating...all you have is a pretty expensive unobstructed valve letting air by, which will make a woosh sound...not that "squueee" sound you're probably looking for. To get that infamous HKS sound on a DSM, you'll need to get a MAFT (way too much time and money if you're just looking for sound).

I had this same dilema a couple months back, and after quite a bit of research and looking at pricing, I decided to go with the GReddy line of BOVs, which sound great even when recirculated, and are a little less expensive.

I'm not trying to discourage you from getting the HKS BOV, because it is a very well designed product, but if you are just looking for that HKS noise...you'll be disappointed having it recirculated. If you want just a woosh, then you'll have to get more info from someone that has theirs recirculated :p

Well, really, if you can manipulate your stock recirculation tube, it'll help your sound a bit, even with the HKS I'm sure. If I remember correctly, the return tube you buy for the HKS is little more than a slight, single bend hose. Having that "S" shaped tube causes turbulence during the blow off, and makes for some sound.

Give it a shot before you dump the BOV...it really is a nice design, and you might still be pleased, even recirculated.

bahhhhhhhhhhhhhh fuck,,,,,,,,k well if someone wants to trade my hsk bov for somethin that will sound louder when recirculated let me know

As for my I have one and it is being recirculated back in to the intake system. I may not be as loud as you want it BUT you still be able to hear it. One time I had the windows all the way down, Apex-i N1 and doing a couple of WOT freeway pills and I'm still able to hear the HKS and the spinning action from the turbo. not by much but you can still hear it.

Trust everyone here, your car is not running great. And if you think it is, you need to learn a little more about cars; ours specifically.

Puffin black smoke? Stalling when coming to a stop? Have erratic idle after a pull? Do you complain about gas prices?

Do yourself a favor. Start at the newbie section of this board, read all the threads, and then read everything else.

That's why I was confused about the subject; I don't have any of those problems.

BTW, I searched for the term 'recirculated' (that's how I found this thread). I wasn't aware of the term venting and didn't realize it was related to my question.

Searching for venting has brought up enough info for me to realize I need the HKS SSQ BOV Recirculation Kit. It's on it's way. Thanks for the information.

Glad to hear! People venting their bov's without the needed mods to do it correctly is up there on my pet peeve list.

And I have to apologize for the harshness before. I just found a couple dead pixels on my new XBR4, and I also have a pet peeve with venting, so I...vented

Don't worry about it. I can understand the frustration with the search button.

But now I have to find the correct Recirculation Kit. The one I was about to buy I just realized is for the Super Sequential version of the HKS BOV. I believe the one I have is the old HKS one and I am not sure if they are compatible. DSMParts has both but has discontinued the older HKS BOV. They only carry the new SS BOV and SSQ Recirculation Kit. Does anybody know if the new SSQ kit will work on the older HKS BOV?

I'll try to post a pic up of my BOV tomorrow. It was installed from the previous owner and I'm not 100% sure what model it is.

Thanks for the info.

Umm, either you're really confused, or I just discovered the matrix. As far as I know, HKS only made 1 BOV - The SSQV. They also have a version 2 which has a matte finish but I doubt that's the one you have. Either way, I think the recirc kit will work.
