driving home tonite, all of the sudden, the car hesitated, and then wouldnt spool up all the way, the turbo makes a whirimg noise and i get no power what so ever....i know the first step is to check for boost leaks but it is dark so i cant yet...i am just trying to get an idea of what else it could be....is there a way to check to see if the flapper is opening annd closing correctly? and if it is a boost leak, what would cause it to be so sudden? the car has ran great up until today...i have never had any boost leaks (that i know of) and the turbo has always pulled great...maybe it just crapped out on me? after all the car does have 135xxx on it......any other ideas guys?

Just an idea, one time i was some passing some cars going up a hill and all of sudden, it stumbled and i lost power and i had a real bad whine to the turbo when it was trying to spool up. I thought i lost the turbo but it ended up being the boost line going from the turbo to the wastegate had slipped of the turbo, put it back on and all good again.

The only way to check the flapper is to pull the o2 housing off the turbo and look at it. I wouldn't worry about that though, because it sounds like a big boost leak. If any of the intercooler pipes slips apart then that would cause what you're talking about. Just check all of the connections, because it will probably be visible.

I had a similar problem on my 90 Mustang turbo. It seemed as if the turbo just crapped out. It actually turned out to be a loose air intake fitting. It caused it to loose significant boost.
