i would not do it your self and also one thing to have in mind a 140 amp alt is not going to be good at idle they need more rpm's-off idle so to say. take it to a shop and have it built or buy an alt that is already upgarded if that is what u want to do. why do u want to upgrade, big system or what?

Changing the alternator is basic, but you should have a service manual before performing any work on your car. Now anyone who sells an alternator over 100 amp is suspect for a dsm, and legitimate alternators over 120 amps use dual pulleys because they're so hard to turn and a single pulley would constantly slip and squeal. The bad news is there isn't any room for dual pulleys with the alternator in the stock position and i don't know of any dual pulley harmonic balancers. Anyway the highest you'll prolly get that delivers whats promised is 90-100A. Also bigger isn't always better, and right is best. Add up the amps for all your devices and see how much you really need.

that is not true u can get 120a and 140a alt's all day, that use single pulleys they are no harder to turn than a 80a but they do need more rpm's to produce the amps. never heard of a alt needing dual pulleys lol.

dsm8883, have you heard of google? Try it you might learn something new, and Like I said there are people who will claim over 100A but they don't produce it. Theres no such thing as a free lunch and it requires significantly more torque to produce more amps such that an single belt would quickly fail. And laughing at things you don't know about or understand just makes you look even dumber.
