Im sorta new to logging and Ive been using MMcd software with a Palm m100 with a serial connector for it. I recently switched to an m130(color) and I have a direct palm plug for it. I have the MMcd software installed, but it wont read anything. One thing I noticed is that if I try and check CEL, it says, "Serial Com Error." Anyone know what that means, and if its part of the problem.

It means Serial Communication Error, and it is the problem. There is something wrong with the connection between the car and the palm. Make sure that all of your plugs for the cable are connected securely, and maybe test your cable for continuity. If that doesn't work, try switching back to your old palm, since the new may have a bad connector.

Doesnt the PockeyLOGGER cable for the M100 and M105 have the 8th pin removed so itll work? Maybe Mike had sent you the modified cable and you need the one w/ the number 8 pin still there. If you dont understand what Im talking about, you can call him and hell explain or Im sure someone knows what Im talking about. I have the M105 and I had to remove it.

There have been complaints of the sturdiness of the connector in the m500/m505/m125/m130 models. In an effort to make the connector smaller, Palm also made it weaker. Complaints have been that the HotSync cable does not stay connected very well.

What's a direct Palm plug?

1G Datalogger cables usually come in two types. One style connects directly to a PC serial port and the other style connects directly to a Palm Hotsync cable. The sex of the connectors and which pins are used for transmit and receive data are different between the two.

I assume you used a standard M100 hotsync cable connected into your DLC cable before. How's is it hooked up now and did you touch the end going into Diag Connector during the change?

When I had the m100 I used a logger plug that ended with a serial connector. Now with the m130 I got a plug that hooks right to the palm unit.
