My engine idles around 2000rpm in park but in drive it idles around 900rpm; when I start it, it makes a hefty cloud of smoke; and when my brother indiglo gauges in the car he broke the oil pressure gauge and now the gauges don't glow. Anyone help me?

white smoke means bad head gasket ( most of the time). check your oil for white watery stuff( thats coolant). it would show up on the oil cap or dipstick if you don't see any you should do a compretion test just to be safe.

do u have lager than stock rims? that would cause ur speedometer to be off, take u dash back out and check the bulbs in the back of ur bezel, i had the same problem, if u replace them again there is a short sumwhere, u goota take a test light to stuff, usual a broken relay, or tail lamp shorts sh*t out

The white smoke is only when I start it too. What can I do to fix the speedo and the oil pressure gauges if my bro jus didn't put them together right? And what can I do to make the gauges glow again?

It turns out the speedo needle was never removed in the first place, dunno how he did that but that's what he said.
What size are your tires?

When I bought my first Laser, it has like 195-50-14 tires on it, and the speedo was way off.

You might want to talk to a tire place, but that might cause it to be off a bit (A % of your speed). 205-55-16 tires are pretty much the same height at the stock 14's, so a 45 series tire might be a bit of a difference....But I can't see a 10MPH difference.

Get yourself a Haynes manual. You can replace valve guide seals in a couple of hours for less than $150 worth of parts. It helps to have an air compressor. It's not too difficult to do, even though getting the spring compresser on those shorty springs will likely make you throw tools across the yard...
