My turbo shows a boost leak here?!?! Help!

I hooked up a boost leak tester today to my intake side on my turbo like you should. I set the engine to TDC. I presurised the system and I heard a leak right between the two halfs of the turbo. Not where the exhaust half joins on but closer to the lower intercooler flange. I know its not the flange gasket. Its coming from the turbo housing it sounds like. What would that be? When you pressurize the system doesn't it only go through the intake half of the turbo, then to ic, up to intake manifold and stops in there basicually? Thanks!

Can this be replaced with the turbo inside the car?
Only if you're extremely lucky and the gap of the snap-ring of the compressor housing is oriented so you can to it with snap-ring pliers to compress it and get it out of the groove of the compressor housing. Even so, putting the snap-ring back into the groove with the turbo on might be a real bitch, but feel free to give it a shot... :D

You can make your own boost leak tester way cheaper. I have used my home made tester dozens of times. Get a bicycle pump or an air compressor. You need a plastic T and a few small band clamps to hold hoses onto the T. You'll need a rubber cap that fits over the intake portion of the turbo. I think its 2" or 2 and 1/2" They can be found at any hardware store. Private message me if you have questions.

Replacing the seal on your turbo is a pain. I had to take the turbo out of the car...no other way. I was in your position some time ago, asking the same question, which Taboo also answered then and now.

This thread might help a little bit.

is there a guide or something on how to do it?
if i buy the rebuild kit i can change it my self right? or do i have to send to get it re built?

You don't really need a kit...just the compression o-ring.
Basically you need to remove your intake, unbolt all the cooling lines to your turbo...or from the other end of the cooling line closer to the engine.
Take off your down pipe..take out your manifold to turbo bolts. Take the turbo out of the car. Get some really pointed needle nose pliars. You can do this yourself. Its just a slow processs if you are doing it for the first time by yourself. I'm glad to help by phone or email. Just send me a private message.
