Raced a Porsche Boxster on the highway..

well it was a nice day today and decided to go for a nice cruise which i love doing once in awhile. i could get plenty of races around my area, but most of it is rice and gets boring which i don't mind pounding on every now and then:-D. anyway, as i'm heading home i'd figured i take this sorta like highway called Ocean beach parkway here on Long island. the road is a 3 lane highway that streches for miles with rarely another soul on it:). so as i'm cruising on this highway heading home, i see this Porsche boxster up ahead. i proceed to pass it thinking nothing of it (just saying to myself what a nice car). i continue to pass it and drive by with the porsche staying way behind. all of the sudden, i see the porsche gain on me from behind real quickly. ok, so i'm thinking this guy wants some action seeing how quickly he gain on me. he wouldn't pass but just stay in the left lane maybe 4 cars behind almost like waiting for me to gun it so he can run me (which i'm sure he was doing). so i'm in the middle lane and hes in the left behind. so i decided, what the hell, drop it into 4th while doing maybe 60,70 (not sure) and pull away from him quickly. i slow down and wait for him to catch up to see if hes game. he pulls up on my left hand side and then slows down, and proceeds to slow, wayyy down. i catch on that hes game and i slow down until i'm in 3rd gear. where both lined up, i smile, he smiles back and we are off. third gear and i'm next to him, 4th and i'm neck and neck. top of 4th i let go (i'm a bigg pussy to high speeds:-D). we were both neck and neck the whole time. we pull up next to each other again, and this time we go from second. this time i would pull on him at end of second and when i would shift to 3rd, he would gain that pull i had on him from second and we would be neck and neck. then 3rd came and he would pull me but when 3rd was coming to its end on my side, i would gain it back and be right next to him(if that made sense). then 4th gear and still neck to neck. i maxed out 4th and shut it down. i could here his turbo sneezing when he would shift (sweet sound). i would of had him in 5tn also but like i said, i'm a pussy to high speeds, LOL. long ass story short, i was neck and neck with this boxster all the way to 110-120 (i think). afterwards we slowed down next to each other and he asked if my car had the stock turbo and i said yes it does. he also asked if it was AWD and i said yes and he replied if it was off the line i would of had him. he then proceeded to tell me how he use to own one and how much he loved my car :)):)<<<exactly how i looked when he repeatidly said how much he loved my car). thought i'd share that with you guys. the guy was mad cool and i gave him a thumbs up after the race and took off. i was VERY impressed about how my car kept up side by side with that car at high speeds. i would say that was my best race because it was a REAL sports car and not your everyday rice.

my mods...
2.5 t/p, 2.5 t/p, 3" cat back and joe p. b/c set to 15psi..
thats all.

i'm sure boxsters are not all that when it comes to speed, but i had fun racing a REAL car this time;)..

Nice kill. Now slap a 20g and a front mount and go after the big dogs with the number 911 with a turbo after it.

yeah thats going to be soon for sure. i cannot wait until some reall mods start going into this car. hopefully i'll have some balls and open her fully in 5th next time..:D

You sure? I didnt think Boxsters were turbo. Maybe it was aftermarket.

i'm positive. i didn't know it was a turbo untill i heard it sneeze reall hard at the end of second. when i heard that i looked over saying, 'ohh shit, its turbo also", LOL. if it wasn't a turbo then i don't know what the hell it was. maybe it was after market?? the guy was like in his late 20s early 30s my guess. cool guy.

I've had some fun with a newer carrera & boxster before... 14b/smic uic/outlet/3" turbo back/afc/18psi etc. I was just cruising down a *VERY* twisty road with a 25mph speed limit and well deserving of it. I see bright yellow madness in front of me and decide to catch up real fast. This guy is already cruising at 40-50 on this twisty road and I'm having to concentrate a lil just to catch up. Now as soon as I get him reeled in he takes off and pulls away, he must be going 80/85 around these turns on a 25mph road. He's still within his lines etc. not really sliding. I drop to 3rd and keep the car at redline and just alternate between pulling 6k to 7.5k and almost full brake just before each curve then pulling out. I'm going 110%, I'm using both lanes for every curve, taking it as close as I can without wiping... I finally real him in @ a stop sign and barely stop before brakes are @ 100% fade. Jesus they can handle.. Then again 1g awd w/ stock susp @ the time was like a truck. But honestly he didn't slide once.. Guy might as well have been smoking a cig with a soda in the other hand... He smiled and took off, I had him side side in 3rd @ 80 on road just before a turn just to show him I had something for him then slowed back down and let my molten lava breaks and thoroughly taxed 14b have a break. Most fun I have ever had chasing someone down... I swear car was more fun before because it took more effort to hang with people & skill now its just brute force raping most people around here effortlessly. Jesus he was fast.

The only time I ever went faster or tried harder/cut it closer than racing that Porsche in the twisties was when I freaked out and was running for my safety in town. Starting 1/2 way through the story at the good part a carload of guys (about 4-5) slides to a stop behind me and almost rams me at a stop sign and 2 jump out with baseball bats and one jumps in front of the car 1/2 way. 6k DUMP I dont care if I run you over I'm out of here! He dives out of the way and they get in the car and start to chase. I fly through the red light and run the next stop sign already going 90 on 35mph road by the time I hit it. They are about 10 cars back now. I keep going down hills/up hills and around very sharp corners... All these features at the same time at times. I go a minimum of about 85 around even the sharpest corners, roughly 110-115 on the straight aways almost redlining 4th getting airborne. I am almost totally sideways on many turns @ 80mph+ and almost die roughly a dozen times. Once I spun around more than 1/2 way and managed by some miracle to not go completely backwards down hill @ 80mph and the car straightens out, into 4th gear and wot again no time to think. I'm either WOT or 90% brakes the entire run. I finally get near the end of the road, run 2 more stop signs, take a single lane bridge (with the signs) at 100-110mph and realize I have 100% fade and no brakes :( I drop to 3rd gear and use the clutch to hold car @ 7500 rpm and coast down barely + full brake... drop to 2nd and do the same thing using clutch to prevent over rev (I'm past redline for 2nd as far as mph at the time) and I manage to stop @ a redlight once I'm in a more busy area. My brakes manage to actually stop the car from a 5mph roll @ 100% pressure. I just take normal 45mph road home @ 75-80 and let the car cool down, I take several convoluted turns and an alternate route home. I sit in the car shaking for about 5mins and go inside and look in the mirror, not a pretty site. Looking back on this it was pretty stupid... basically I went 2x as fast as I needed to just to get away. It was 4-5 older teenagers or guys in early 20's in a cavalier z24 I think so basically they must have been 50% down the road by the time I was off it and on my main road home but I was really terrified and couldn't help it. When you are going 80 toward a 40deg turn and your brain decides WOT is the best course of action you pretty much have yourself worked up into life/death situation I guess. Phew anyways... Next time I drive to police station @ 50mph and let them ram me if they want, or take chances and fight baseball bat with bare hands. I almost died enough times where that probably woulda been smarter.

My other Porsche race (20g/fmic/etc./suspension now) was a boxster on the highway from 60-65. I wanna say like 5-10 bus lengths give or take a football stadium by 140 and I shut down with a coffee coolata in my hand just chilling :) Gotta dish it back out sometime! Your time will come.

MoBoost, shifting to 3rd at 70mph? Do you do that all the time? How often do you change transmissions then? Besides, the 14b is ideal at 3200-5500 range, not 7000 as 3rd would have been at that speed...

xxxxdsm, nice story. I can personally relate to everything that you are talking about.

DSMing91, good kill. But youre a wuss. I have the same mods as you and I beat new Boxter in a very ugly way. Maybe he had an aftermarket turbo, which would explain such a close race and the bov sound. But you are still a wuss for not going to the 5th :)

whats so bad about shifting to 3rd at 70mph??? 2nd gear tops out at around 62mph, so 70mph isnt even that far into 3rd gear.

I agree, third gear at about 70 puts you right in the sweet spot for a highway punch. try running at 65-70 in third and put one foot on the brake and stall up the gas and once you can do this in a controlled situation you will learn to "launch" on boost. Supra guys do it all the time and it works well.

yeah i know, i'm a wuss:D.. the car (mine) was handling great at the veeery top of 4th, which i could of kept going, but said f*ck it, and shut it down. i'm not really use to high speeds like that, YET. its my coutiousness (sp?) that makes me like that, LOL. i could almost swear that, that boxster was a turbo. i heard the sneeze when he would shift and heard it very loud when he shifted in to 3rd. thats when i figured it was a turbo. once i heard it, after that i would listen in to make sure it was a turbo and would hear the turbo sneeze everytime he shifted (3rd being the loudest). it had to be after market then. man, i should of pulled over and asked to make sure:(. all in all, it was such a rush for me because i never raced a car like that. talk about fun.

MoBoost, sorry, i really don't remember what gear i shifted into. i was so into the race and being carefull and what not, that i forgot afterwards:D, LOL.

I personally don't know. My car at 70 mph would be at like 6k in 3rd and thats pretty much time to shift right there. But it's just my car. Maybe yours is different? Actually, is there a ger list for our cars somewhere on the net? I'm starting to think that there is something wrong with my car....

Basically I was driving around and saw a hella wicked gay lookin red z24 w/ chrome hubs and neon lights and I rev on it briefly once about 5 cars back and pull to 3 cars back then slow down quick right before road goes to two lane to incite a lil "race" <cough>... So they slow down real fast and I think "brake test"/try to make me hit them from the get go. I didn't slow down I just dropped to 2nd @ like 5.5k and got into the newly existing 2nd lane and took off till I was about 10 cars ahead then started to cruise. Then they follow me for like 15 mins... At first I'm like ok I'll just drive and they'll leave me alone no bigee. I lost them easily over and over again down windy roads. As soon as I'd slow down though invariably I'd be cruising @ 50 again and a car would come flying up at 80 a minute later.
Couple times they went on different roads and parked and waited with the lights out and came from behind quick.

So finally I'm like I might as well find out how many people are in the car (4 or 5) / if I can take them (unt uh; heh), what there intentions are (kill), and try to converse a bit maybe smooth it over and lettem know I just wanted to race a lil/see if they still would like to. I break a 180 @ about 45mph on a 25mph back road and turn around a lil through-way hill they will have to go by the opposite direction soon. So they slide up to me and almost hit me. One is making lil bull-sh. punch/hand gesture. I'd beat on any single one of them, maybe 2.. but not 4 or 5. They looked like juniors/seniors in highschool or real early college so not too big but their #'s kinda add up and one was pretty big. I begin to think about AWD LAUNCH & 3300LBS vs Z24 and ramming them into the woods if necessary and going vehicle vs pedestrian on them after at this point. I'm just like 'race?' its the only thing I can think of that explains my entire situation and keeps it friendly in 1 word that I can get out before they do something. Suffice to say they are not interested in racing and are probably all drunk and looking for someone to beat/general trouble to cause. He starts to move backward at an angle to block me in... I take off hard in 1st without launching around him right before he can block me and fly to that stop sign where the other story begins.

I had planned to a) drive through police station (close) and bounce off the revlimiter till cop came out or make a high speed flee run on a straight road I could get up to 130-140 on semi-safely after seeing if they were still following. But when they slid up behind me and got out with f$%!in bats I scrapped that plan and just launched down that windy lil road immediately. I probably had a 16 second car with 5 idiots in random states of drunkenness chasing me, but I treated it like a hitman in a Z06 who happened to be a professional racecar driver was on my a. Brain didn't bother considering type of threat only that there was one and I wanted to be very very far from it.

The first tatic I used worked pretty good except I didnt run for long enough (less than 30 seconds). I just drove real slow like speed limit and they let me stay a few cars ahead and I slowly widened it until he didnt feel comfortable letting me get further away and sped up. I did this couple times then got are far away as as I could as slow as I could go and still have him like 5 cars back.
Soon as I hit the 1st blind corner I could have 3 seconds of acceleration on before they'd notice I dropped to 2nd and was going 90 by the time they got around the corner and were going 40. I should have kept going and just taken the first 3 or 4 random turns to utilize awd+extra power as much as possible and put 25 cars on them... Then just drive home a different way @ about 1.5x speedlimit or so and hope for the best.

I hope I catch that car again, with noone in it around town, It's been 6mo and I'm sure they don't remember me or my car. I'll stab every tire and piss in the tank after breaking fuel door open. No stupid replies like I shouldn't say that either; you aren't the one who almost died like 10x... I'd have a good mind to firebomb it if I saw it nevermind what I already wrote. This was 14b/smic days btw... now I would have 25+ cars on them so fast it would make their head spin, they'd have no choice but to give up immediately :)

Have you tried? I mean, have you been to a track? What's your et and in which gear do you end? (You could also have a NT tranny ....)

xxxxdmn, your story makes sence and I completely agree with you. You have done the right thing although you could have done it differently.

Moboost, I haven't been to the track.. ever. Not even as a spectator. How lame is that? The nearest one is about 2 hours away and if you go, you go with a gang (just in case someone needs to be towed). All my friends have messed up work shedules, and I work nights. So life sucks. No track for me untill the break or PSpump, whichever comes first :)

I went to 3rd gear going 65-70 mph and all it did, was to spool my little turbo immediately. Yeah, it's a kick, but a serious beating on the car as well. You'd never guess whay I had to shift like that.... Because a Boxter went by and I just could not let go. We played for a while in traffic, him having great handling advantage, and me having speed. He was a great sport and admited his defeat, while I admited that he could have had my ass if the road had curves :) I was pulling on him in every gear, from any speed. If there is a turbo model out there - it wasn't it.

Why don't you goto the SO in Ohio (Jul 21/22/23 I think)? Last year when I went was the first time I ever saw a dsm run at the track. No better way to start it off than seeing hundreds of them at once, maybe even run.

Also I would say pas on the starion fmic If I were you unless your are getting with piping for like $150 or something. Otherwise if your going to get it anyways make the piping nice and 2.25->2.5 or 2.5->2.5 that you can use with a better core later with minor modifications. I'm only saying this because I've seen and heard of probably 5 seperate cases where people get it over smic and notice hardly any improvement and want it gone and a bigger core about a week later :) I think most of them gained ~2-3mph and had 14b or s16g's that were using it, so it's an improvement, just not a huge one. I would be willing to bet a smic with modded in/out & lic + uic pipe would do about as good. People who did a spearco 221 etc. something a lot bigger anyways after generally picked up a few more mph. It's just ~300$ more for a bigger core, if you dont have it you dont have it I guess. If you already know this forget I said anything. Judging from 2.5tback and 2100 I'm guessing your going to stop @ 14b or b16g w/ modded internal gate or something probably anyways? I bet your exhaust is home/shop made? heh mine is, you just sound like el cheapo parts hacker too.
