Well on the take off I left the RX7 really far behind and they might of screwed up cause i shure found it odd. But I got to 90 so fast that maybe they didn't have time to catch up by the time i started to slow down or might of shut it down right after I passed them. It's really hard to tell from a rear view mirror but i'd say he was between 4-6 car lengths behind. Do you guys think that a mid 13's 2G can walk away from a rx7 from 45 mph?

In the forced performance site it says that DG rean a 12.7 1/4 mile with stock 450s big front mount. I'm sure there was maybe some more stuff. And he's 60' times are amazing wich expalins he's 1/4 mile. This is what he said:

It was clear that I'd either have to have the car dynoed, or to put down some dragstrip runs, before I'd have any real "proof". Well, this past weekend I did just that. I happened to be in London, and there's a dragstrip just south, and they were having a test and tune day - so I dropped in and made some passes. The only downside was that their race gas guy wasn't there, so I had to make these passes on 93 octane pump gas. I dropped the boost to 20 PSI, and richened the SuperAFC up 2% from the race gas setting I've been using, which is more or less -11% across the board (so -9%) The car has stock 2G injectors, a huge FMIC, whatever the fuel pump Buschur Racing sells (it's big and green) Plugs are one heat range colder than stock. ACT 2100 with a stock friction disk. And stock 215/50R17 Goodyear RSA tires.

Here's the best pass (3 made)

R/T: .512
60': 1.691
330': 5.186
1/8: 8.156 @ 83.50
1/4: 12.749 @ 105.39

He also has a 97 TSI AWD. I don't have a big front mount and I have a automatic. So I don't really expect to compare to him but I thought It gave an idea of the T28/28 Turbos potential.

Hey.. Its the street. ANYTHING can happen. If its 100% true, good kill.

Most of the points have been touched here (Leaking boost, wheel spin, etc. etc. etc.). Reguardless, its the INET and you say you raced him, and won. Congrats.

There are fast AWD cars out there. I recently raced a 1993(?) (LATE older body style)Blue GSX AWD. He was running 24 psi of boost, manual tranny, and who knows what other mods. He said his car was quick, and most everyone else agreed. He was also running out of gas (near a 1/4 tank).

I was in my RX-7, tuning it on the street the best I could. We were parked at a gas station, and I was reviewing my data-logs. I have a 1995 RX-7 with a single turbo setup (60-1 'P' Trim divided w/ 1.15 AR) with lotsa goodies. I was running wastegate spring (7psi). The tuning I was doing was for fuel economy.. I was averaging about 3 mpg putting around in 5th gear. So, I had no need to turn up the boost. Anyhow, the guy was nice and approached me. He asked if I wanted to run.

I said sure, and asked him about his car.. (Its interesting when someone approaches you (Me, most people knew I had a single turbo) to race.. Either they want to make a mockery of you in their 10 second car, or they want to see your car kick ass)

Thats when he told me he was making about 340 awhp. ?? How he got this? Who knows.. I don't know of an all wheel dyno shop anywhere near where I am at. But Anyhow..

We hit it from a roll (20 mph). Honestly, here was the outcome:
1- He he the throttle first, and INSTANTLY jumped about 1 car lengths ahead. I was thinking, shit. This is gonna look ugly.
2- I spun my tires a little.
2- I played catch up a lot there after.
3- I gained a lot on him every time he shifted (gotta love taking the RPM up to 8k)
4- He was in front of me the entire time until about 80 MPH. This was the magical number when we were side by side.
5- 85 His front bumper was at my rear wheel (According to my passenger)
6- 100 I was about 2-3 cars ahead of him.
7- I shut down about 120. No idea how far ahead of him I was.

My point in posting this? Did he win? Sure. Did I win? Sure. A race should be determined between point A and point B. Otherwise you get unknown variables.

BTW: I did dyno my car at 7 psi, and it made 305 rwhp. What this means is when I am running normally 17psi on the street, it is well over 440ish rwhp. The turbo efficency doesn't come into play until about 15 psi. I am excited. :)

Damn it! I want single turbo too!!!! waaaaaaaah

Its true though. I don't think anyone was saying that a certain car could not be beat. Who knows what running under the hood. I think the point was, that based on the mods listed, it just seemed odd - almost as if the rx7 wasn't rnning right. I never meant to imply nano was making up the story. Was just - attempting to explain it... oh wells. What else do you have running there?

Though to be honest, even with my current setup, I totally burn up my rear wheels if I slam on the gas in 2nd or.. 3rd gear for that matter...

You said you spin your wheels, what kind of car do you have, and what are its mods?

Import Tuner Magazine

ok, it's got some fine ladies so i read it once in a while =) They usually have a "power pages" section where they take cars, add about $1000 to them and dyno. Usually it's hondas making a gain of about 8hp for $1000, but one issue had a TTrx7! The best mod they did to that car was some vacum line replacements that netted a 30rwhp gain!!! no joke about the vacum leaks i guess.

aren't all 3gRX7's TT?

Red Rx-7 that a really powerfull car. What kind of turbo are you running? That's impreasive for 7psi. I talked to forced performance and they said that with my mods, plus 550s and 18psi and well tunned I assume. That if my car was a manual should be able to hit 12s from their experience. And they calculated 320 wheel AWD HP. I'm sure that's going to vary cause I have a power robbing automatic. But stock was only .3 secs slower in 0-60 then a manual(assuming a manual does it in 6.5 secs) and just a MBC set to 15psi lowered my number to 6.0 secs. At least under a gtech. Does anyone know what the efficiency (or how bad) of a automatic dsm is?

I'm sure there might of been a lot of variables for beating the Rx7. But either way it was lots of fun.

Jeez..

I don't see why everyone's calling BS on this one..

A stock RX-7 TT runs a ~13.9, and those times are hard to attain consistantly on the street with street tires because of wheelspin, road condition, etc. If it was 35 degrees out like he said, it's VERY possible the RX-7 spun like a bastard.

ON TOP of that... the FP T28/28 flows better than a small 16G, and hits peak boost EARLIER. It also holds boost to redline. I think it's totally feesable with his mods that he's running a low 13.

I have a 91 (lower compression) AWD, with a small 16G. My compressor wheel is junk, I don't get 14.5psi until 3600rpm. With only intake, 2.5" pressbent exhaust, and 14.5psi on a busted small 16G, I ran a 13.7@98mph, I have the timeslip to prove it.

If his turbo is putting out more cfm, SOONER, and he's running slightly more boost on a higher compression motor, why not? If my turbo was up to spec and I lowered my 60 from 1.83 to 1.6x, I'd have run a 13.4-13.5 on 14.5psi on a SMALLER turbo than he has.

Take the RX-7 as stock, in 35 degree temps (more wheelspin), and this kill story seems fairly logical to me.

(plus it's hard to judge carlength distance in a rear view mirror....)

Oh yeah, those of you who haven't been in an auto turbo dsm...puching it from the 30-40MPH gets you a MAJOR punch in an auto. The downshift to 1st and the instant spool really throws you hard in the seat more than in any other situation, well, except a power braked launch :). I think punching it at 40 will give the advantage to the auto DSM.

Typically, if the light is green and not too much traffic is on the two lane road near my work, and a person is making a left in my lane, I roll on a ~30mph, and once he moves out of the way, punching it really ROCKETS me across the intersection...it just doesn't pull as hard as this in any other situation, launching, standing start etc.

I don't think people are saying that its BS. But I think its natural to question what could have led to such a result. Even utilizing your statement, a 13.4 on a AWD car - should NOT be able to walk from a 13.9 RWD car -- from 45-90 MPH. That's all... I don't think Nano was lying, and thought it was a good story. I wish I was there.. gotta love these little races!

Boostd4

I don't know where you get your info but you are way off. The small 16g flows more than the T28! If that wasn't the case, why do most repetable tuners recomend the mitsu turbo, even though it is more difficult to install on 2nd gen cars. All of the fast street dsms use the mitsu turbo. As for the auto tranny, nano is probably losing a lot of power. Modded twin turbo supras lose as much as 100 hp at the wheels when switching from manual to automtic. The T28 is a nice upgrade for a 2nd gen, but it does not flow as well as the 16g!

Actually NJC, according to flow testing info on the forced performance site,
"The FPT2828 turbo is a direct boltin upgrade turbo for all 1995-1999 DSM's. It has a compressor mass flow rate of 35 lb/min which depending on who performs the unit conversion from lb/min to CFM is around 510CFM. This is the same flow capacity as the standard 16g turbocharger which is rated at 505 CFM. Looking at the comparison pictures it is possible to tell that the 62 trim T28 compressor wheel is about the same size as the 16g. Checking the dimensions of each wheel also shows this to be true. The 62 trim T28 wheel is actually 0.030" LARGER than the 16g compressor wheel."

So the T28 does flow a tad more than a 16g, (at I *think* 15psi). Most of the big names recommend the 16g as
1. The T28/28 only came on the scene not too long ago
2. The T28/Super 60 did not perform quite that well and that probably soiled the T28 name
3. A new 16g is ~$500 (not considering install kit) while FPT28/28 is about $900, and, key point here, IS ONLY AVAILABLE THROUGH FP.
4. The 16g is a PROVEN performer while T28 is still the new kid on the block.

If you are looking for a stock looking non warranty-voiding turbo with 16g levels of power, you can't beat the T28.

stock rx-7's are fast but not that fast i'm sure a dsm with exhaust intake 17psi fuel pump s-afc would dust a stock rx-7 well maybe not dust but it doesn't take much to get a dsm into the mid to low 13's and if an rx-7 does low 14's to high 13's stock the dsm should pull 4 or 5 cars also let's not forget a t2828 flows more than a 14b so i think this story is completely believeable
