And i was scared shitless when my sparkplug hit my hood, i couldnt imagine what that was like. But i agree, buy another car im sure there is more damage to the rest the car with all the flying scraps, gears and what not

 

Sorry to hear but at least you are ok...I have to agree with the others that you may want to assess the car before investing in another drivetrain. It may be cheaper in the long run to buy a new car.

You slammed it into 4th as in like a 7 grand shift or? That clutch is mangled wow.

 

Maybe a 5 1/2 to 6 shift didn't even slam it hard or anything...

The flywheel was probably starting to crack/warp, causing the clutch disc to drag.

Your block might be ok, just need a new top end, harness, and trans, along with other odds and ends. Best bet if you want to fix it would be to find a donor car that's wrecked in the back or something, otherwise I'd probably sell it as-is as a fixer-upper would probably be the easiest way out of it. Do you have full coverage insurance? You might be able to submit a comp. claim.

It looks like something went way wrong inside your bellhousing. Sent the clutch/flywheel out of it's cozy home and on a rampage that took out your thermostat housing up to the cas and tb/im. I'd say given you had a scattershield you would've had to replace a tranny at most. Your motor may be fine though. Just needs some bolt on parts. As long as the crank didn't take a beating and you didn't skip timing.

 

Holy crap thats some carnage. I woulda been scared shitless. If you don't mind me asking, how fast were you going? I can't imagine what an exploding tranny would feel like doing 60+ on the freeway...

Yep, flywheel explosion. I run a 1/4" thk S.S. scattershield for this very reason.

 

I also agree with the flywheel/clutch coming apart. I don't know if I would just abort the car, though. Do some diagnostics and figure out all that was damaged, then go from there.

 

Well as far as I know the motor could be fine but I don't plan on aborting the car either way I owe more than I can get for it in its current condition...

Flywheels coming loose are scarey. I think theres been a case before with passenger death by flywheel. Idk what car that was on though...

 

There have been plenty of instances of people loosing legs or other injury's because of that. Loose flywheel bolts cause that.

You hadn't had any clutch work done recently, have you?

 

I vote take your time and fix the car, if you can.
