Stripping aluminum wheels

I'm repainting my car and I want to do the wheels as well, but I've never stripped aluminum before and I can't sand blast it. What works well? I don't want to just spray over it because that seems kind of ghetto and it's corroding and bubbling etc, so even if I did it still wouldn't look very good. The wheels are the stock '92 talon ones.

Couldnt you just get some high-grit sandpaper and go to town and then paint it with a few coats? I think that would hold up fine.

Wheel Stripping

Here is a link to a page I found through a search on google. I performed the steps a couple of months back on my stock rims and they turned out great.

http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Cockpit/6144/DSM_Home/Wheel_Finishing/wheel_finishing.html

Here are 2 links for what my wheels looked like before and after ...

Before After

One the after picture you will notice some overspray, I took all that off with some gasoline. So far they have held up well. I have only suffered a couple of dings on them, but I think that is because I didn't let them sit long enough.

I made a modification to the before and after links that are on this page. They are corrected in the quote.
