No more than likely... if it was actually a JDM motor... it came with something good. Like a 16g. The small one I think? Now I'm speculating... and I just yelled at Bnoland... :rolleyes:
They may have come with a 14b... but since there aren't T/E/L in Japan... just evo's... shouldn't it be a bigger turbo... tho even that depends on year.
I wouldn't try and tell what it is from TDO5 4 whatever. Its not specific enough... as you see different turbos can still have a housing in common.
I have heard the same. I think it was ether a 14B or a small 16g that come on the JDM motors. It all good for the "yelling".. I can take a scream or two aslong as it gets something accomplished. :D

So the mechanic was blowin' smoke up my :eek: when he said I was better off with the smaller turbo?!?! He just wanted to swap the motor and not all the other turbo parts... hmmm... :rolleyes:
And now you know why lots of people like to do their own car work.. I know thats why I do all mine. That or polkperformance in LittleRock, Ar.

not yelling yelling...
just yelling. ;)
Be nice if you had something decent laying around huh?
Real easy way to tell tho... go pick it up and look at it.
Now go over and see which ones smaller.
Take whichever's smaller and sell it on eBay...
Put bigger turbo on car.
Boost.
:D

Hell ya! I am going to have fun with the DSM I am buying. This will be my second one and if you want to see a big turbo check out an FP 3052. The one I am buying has that one. Check out PDQ DSM's 1991 talon he is selling on here to see a pic of it. His car is the one i am buying.

Oh hell yes I had some problems with it after the guy did the motor... at the time it was my only car, the timimg belt slipped in the middle of winter and I have no garage... I have about 41K on the JDM motor and am hoping to redo the old one over the winter... I am 2k from 200K mark. It has been a good little car, but I finally got curious about the old turbo... :D He was refered to me by the people who sell the JDM motors, I later found that he ripped them off around the same time my motor was transplanted. :) Live and learn...

Thanks for the info...

Usually the JDM motors came with 450cc inj (blue top) and a 14b, or 510cc in (yellow top) and a Big16g. When a buddy of mine parted out his car, which only needed a clutch, and some water leaks fixed, I snagged his AFC, the injectors, and the turbo. And I identified it as a Big16g by taking it to the place I worked at, at the time (Majestic Turbochargers in Waco, TX) and comparing the wheel to a regular 16g wheel.

As far as running a 13g (if indeed that's what it was) I lasted about 5 months with one in my car. I bought the car, it was a MT Talon, and I was told that that was the original motor. When I snapped the shaft on the 13g, and went to install a rebuilt 14b, I found that nothing fit right. I then pulled the valve cover off, and found auto cams in it. Obviously not the original motor :rolleyes:. A few months later, I installed the built and balanced bottom end, and slapped some HKS 272's in it, along with a 17c wheel installed in the "old" Big16g. I've got 15K miles on it, since last October, and I couldn't be happier.

TD04 = bad
TD05 = gettin' there
T4 = now you're talkin'

Asmodeus: I didn't know how small they were, but I did know that a pair of 13g's is a considerably upgrade for them. Them suckers are itty bitty, too.

yeah some guy bought the cyclone intake from me not sure why though... ($50.00) Maybe I got screwed again... LOL
I installed the Cyclone on mine ;) Some people like 'em, some don't. I don't really see any power increase, or anything. I think it's more for driveability, you get a bit more low-end and mid-range torque. The only problem with it, is getting the butterfly valves actuated properly. I think keydiver can program the ECU to actuate it. I am going to use an old actuator, so when I hit 5-6psi, it opens the valves, and utilizes both runners.

I was going to throw mine away and came across a request for one so I sold it to the dude... :)

Yeah, that 13g turbo usually comes on an A/T 1g.

It flows 360 cfm vs 405 cfm (14b) vs 505 cfm (s16g).
Injectors are 390's vs 450's (M/T)
and the A/T motor came with different cams, ex man, ?fpr?, ecu.

The only thing that might be considered better about the 13g as compared to the 14b is it spools up at a lower rpm and it spools faster to full boost (better turbo rush effect I think) and if you'e not going to run over stock boost levels you might as well stick with it for those reasons. BUT if you plan on running 12 lbs or more go bigger because the bigger turbo won't have to turn as fast to create the same amount of boost thus it will be pushing cooler air which is more HP.

Personally I'd only run the 13g to about 14 lbs max.

Yeah mine starts at about 14lbs then drops back to 11lbs... I need to build a leak tester. The guy that did he swap pretty much told me the same thing... "spools up at a lower rpm and it spools faster to full boost" Actually I have been looking into getting a MBC... just not sure which one to get... thanks to all for your help!

Do you have an after-market boost gauge?
