To AC or not to AC that is the question.

For keeping:
1. It's AC it's nice and comfortable
2. Will have new custom tucked lines made
3. Mainly going to be a summer car with atleast 1 8+ hour drive

For removing:
1. Down pipe clearance with alt relocation
2. Alot cleaner bay
3. Better cooling without condenser
4. The hole in the firewall is ideal for my new harness to pass through
5. I have a daily and a truck with AC.

I'm so torn! Try and convince me one way or the other...

As a fat guy, I found rolling down the window's on those long trips with a rumbly exhaust was sufficient. However on more than one occasion I wished I had kept it. If its gonna be a summer dd/crusier/destroyer than I would keep it. If its gonna just be a once in a while weekend warrior/ kill everything in its path then ditch it. Especially if you have two vehicles with AC.

I know that didn't help at all. But deal with it.

I used to somewhat DD my Eclipse and I still pulled out the A/C. I found it gained a tiny bit of power (maybe it was in my head) and it made the engine bay much cleaner. I rarely turn on the A/C in my cars anyways as I would rather roll down my window and listen to my engine. It also will save you some $$$ on gas :).

Hey Swade you're building a drag car and seriously tough about keeping the ac ... ? I removed everything and will continue to drive my car in the street.

AC is only good to give me the flu or a cold during hot summer. Open you window and roll, if it's still too hot open passenger window ! ;)

But serioulsy I had AC for 3 years in my car and never used it once. And if you don't remove it, how the hell will you be able to relocate the alternator ? :D

Mine worked in my Trans Am when I first got it, remember I was like 17 back then. Never believed in using it, just roll down the windows and blast the stereo. Well, now I'm 28 and it barely works sometimes. I have spent $300+ trying to get it fixed and working properly. Lets just say around 25... the music got too loud, the summers got hotter and gas mileage with the windows down became a hassle. Remember mnan, we are not young forever! That's why all those expensive high HP muscle cars like GTO's and Chevelles have A/C systems reinstalled! How old are you swade?

Ha another Canadian chiming in. We were over 30* Celcius for a good part of the summer where I live in Alberta and I kicked myself all last summer for removing my AC, especially since it worked! I did not feel a noticeable power increase and the weight savings is hardly enough to justify it, in my opinion. The whole AC system does not weigh that much, I would worry more about the level of fuel in my tank for weight savings when I was heading to the track. Like GTA said we are only getting older and as you do you will appreciate those creature comforts a lot more. One of your reasons was for downpipe clearance if you relocate the alternator, its not hard to clear the alt and still have enought downpipe clearance. I would assume the majority of people run their setups that way. If this car is gonna see the street KEEP IT! :) Happy choosing!

24, yea give at least 2 more years before the music becomes too loud lol. Good luck getting older buddy ;)

Better finish soon too! Cause in some casses the cars even become too fast! I'm suffering from mid life crisis and I'm 2 years away still....

People it's not a DD. I have one of those and a company car lol. I think its coming out. I will have an Evo or an is300 in the next few years so that will be the fast with class. I would be surprised if this car sees more than 3000 miles a year lol

I think if I had a mainly track car I would still like to drive it to work or around town to show it off, if you don't ever plan on doing that then I guess there really isn't a reason to keep it at all, unless your'e thinking resale value in which lots of people like air conditioning and would pay more for it.

1G keep it, 2G give it all to me!:p I am in the process of trying to piece together a kit to put back in my DSM. I regretted taking it out of my GS-T I had and my GSX already had it deleted:(. I'm going for a complete street car though. Honestly in your case the gain is worth it especially on a track whore.

Here's a question that should help everyone. Without being to specific, where do you live swade? Here in Jersey, home of all to common bumper to bumper traffic combined with humid/smogy 100F+ summers. What should have been a 30 minute drive can turn in to a 2 hour sauna session. It's not your DD so think about how/when you'll be driving it. If you (and any passengers) can take the heat than by all means take it out :D. No need to over complicate it lol.
