Under Clearcoat

I bought these SR Racing rims off a guy here in FL and they have these drip marks on them that look to me like he put very acidic rim cleaner on them and let it dry or something, I would like to know how to go about getting the marks off if I can or if I have to get them repolished. Here is a picture of what they look like. I think it might be under the clearcoat.

I would invest in a buffing wheel and have at it.

Either that or just mount the car on jackstands, put er in second gear and wet sand them.

How many parts have you polished to tell me that it shouldn't flake ? Are you really sure ? I've been polishing parts for more than 10 years so don't tell him that it shouldn't if you don't f*c*i*g know what your talking about. I'm getting tired to see you around the forum talking about dsm even if you never own one before and you act like you know those car ... It really piss me off ! :chair:

I polished a set very similar to this on a Tiburon. The chick used a bad wheel cleaner. The clear coat was in tact afterwards, although thin in places afterwards.

No need to be an asshole dude, I was just sharing my experience. This has nothing to do with DSM's :dunno:

I don't have an AWD but the tires are mounted on the rims now and I am just going to continue to clean the rims with rim cleaner untill it clears up I guess. Today I did it and the marks faded a little. I am doing so with rim cleaner and a dog tooth brush. I am still looking for suggestions though that won't kill the clear coat (Incase it is just stained and not through the clear coat).

My apologies. I was under the impression that having all four wheels of an AWD car off the ground and rotating was not bad for the drivetrain.

Whats bad about it? Are you SERIOUSLY impaired? PAY THE FUCK ATTENTION. It wont hurt the car. But bet your ass when it comes off those stands its going to hurt something. Use your fuckin head. Grow up and realize how I would feel responding to the call to pick your lifeless body out from under your own car that ran your stupid ass over for putting it on jackstands in gear to polish the wheels. Granted, if it was you I wouldn't feel so bad, but someone who took your retarded advice would have some impact. Natural selection doesn't need ignorant help.

Nice to know moderators are exempt from rule number 1.

I asked a simple question because I was genuinely curious about what damage it causes to the vehicle. As I thought, none. So why the fuck are you getting on my case about it? No fucking shit if it falls off the jack stands you have problems, thank you captain obvious. Plenty of people put their cars on jack stands. It's not like you're having a fucking wrestling match inside it and expecting it not to fall.

Why the fuck must you be so rude?

Sebba, what he's trying to say is shit can happen from a car being in gear and moving like that. Either take the wheel off the car, or put the car on stands and do one at a time.

It's not about the damage to the drivetrain here.

Point being that I wasn't 'wrong'. It's a matter of opinion, and anyone putting their car on jackstands does it knowing the risks.

Get the fuck off my case.

Sebba, there is no way you are being serious. Probably everything would be ok, but IF something did happen it would most likely be disasterous.

For anyone not understanding why this is unsafe.

1. Clothing and jewelry are easy to get caught up in large moving parts.
2. Hair getting caught in large moving parts. Watch as your shiny rim rips your girlfriends hair out as she tries to help you polish the wheels...
3. Fingers and limbs getting caught up in moving parts.
4. Anything you are using to polish the wheels can become a projectile instantly.
5. While unlikely the car falling off of the jackstands on your face then driving into your house and over your kid as he watches spongebob and colors on the living room floor.

Thanks for not being an asshole though. Much appreciated.

But seriously, you would exercise caution like you would doing anything else. It's only dangerous if you have a total disregard for common sense.

This entire thing has been made into a big fucking deal when it never needed to be. Some people just look for fights to extend their e-penises

I guess we should all stop riding bicycles because our body parts get too close to moving parts. The same goes for people operating a lathe or a buffing wheel.
