93 tsi. after timing belt install I've got low boost and a general lack of power past 5k rpms. I can get 14 psi but only when it's cold, otherwise it's pretty stuck at 10. I've found no trouble codes. Spark plugs are NGK and all gapped propperly, All my timing marks are on. I checked for misfire by putting it in a high gear and creeping uphill WOT, nothing. Compression is 150 across the board. What'd I do?

timing can be off on the crank too ... you need to check that if you already haven't. pull everything back apart down to the belt and MAKE SURE your timing marks are aligned. 1 half tooth off will cause these symptoms. also you may want to check you ignition timing too. i dont know if you had any machine work done to the cylinder head while you had the timing belt off but if you did the ignition timing needs to be reset. good luck ... and give some more info.

it's completly stock engine, I've checked all the marks via vfaq and everything looks good, the cams point at eachother and the crank mark is at tdc. I didn't personaly do the timing procedure because frankly these engines scare me. It feels like it's out of time but I've had to take the car back into the shop 5 times and they are still unable to fix it, I may have to go back 2 more times now, once with a printed vfaq and twice with a lawyer. this sux, any help greatly appreciated. I found this here and it sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing, but I can't tell what he did to remedy the problem (aside from the balance shaft timing, I got them to fix that the 3rd time I took it back)

best way to make sure its done is do it yourself ... its not very hard to take the top motor mount off, then take the pulleys off then take the timing belt cover off to inspect the timing belt yourself ... do NOT do off what a shop tells you ... honestly, thye have NO IDEA what they are doing most of the time ... do you actually think they set up that hydraulic tensioner correctly? I very hightly doubt it. That in itself will cause the belt to slip or fail early. Just take it apart and check it out ... you need ... a metic socket set, a couple of metric open end wrenches 10, 12, 14, and 17 mm, a jack, and a piece of 2x4 to set under your oil pan to jack the motor up on, its really not nearly as hard as it looks, or sounds for that matter. you have to be absolutley SURE the timing is on before you go any farther. good luck, hopefully you don't have to go the lawer way, that would suck, and take forever, and you would still be without a car.

I have had machine work done on the cylinder head, define ignition timing and what is the way to check if it is correctly set please. I have somewhat hard starting issues even though i have new starter, sparkplugs, wires and alternator.

I cannot stress how extremly stock this engine is, It's on it's first TB replacement, it's never even had an open filter. yea I've torn the pulleys down and everything I still can't find a problem, the timing belt isn't super tight but it's not that loose either. I havn't pressure tested the IC pipes yet, but the way it's acting doesn't make me think that's the problem. I've got no problem doing the timing belt on a normal car but this 4g63 makes my butthole pucker. I'll probably just end up paying some dsm tech to come over and take a gander. I also seem to be getting low gas mileage and a horrific lifter tick, but I popped of the VC and everything appears to be fine (no stuck lifter as far as I can tell). oh some more info, the car was sitting for about a year and a half before I bought it, immediatly after I installed a new clutch and drove it to have the TB replaced.

If you have lack of power past 5krpms, I would pressurize the intake system just to be on the safe side.

Try using different oils for the lifter tick. If that doesn't work, then you'll actually have to pull the head apart and replace the lifters themselves to cure the problem

Low gas mileage could be a gas leak anywhere. o2 sensor is toast. or many other issues. Try the boost leak test and post results.

alright I've got 2 leaks. I can hear it leaking at the turbo but it doesn't seem like it's at the inlet or outlet, is there any other place it could leak @ the compressor? also I'm leaking at the TB shaft seals, I accidently screwed up the metal jacket when removing them. does anyone know where I can currently find a replacement? I got a couple of O rings at the hardware store but they're not metal and it seems like a bad idea.
