What limits my maximum boost? Fuel, Turbo...?

I have a 92 Talon TSi AWD, mods are in sig. I run 16psi daily on 87 octane gas, I want to crank it up to 18psi to run at the track next weekend, can my setup and turbo handle this (If it does well, I want to run 18psi daily)? If not, what do I need to change/upgrade?

Maybe they aren't in my sig, here's my mods:

‘92 Eagle Talon TSi AWD (6-bolt)

Buschur 16G Turbo (ported), 2.5" Buschur downpipe, 2.5" straight pipe, 2.5" Catco high flow catalytic converter (not installed, 2.5" Buschur cat-back system, Walboro 255LPH Fuel pump (not installed) (stock pump rewired), Ported EVO III exhaust manifold, Hallman manual boost controller (set at 16 psi), Turbo XS Type-S BOV, Buschur 2.5" Upper IC piping, 3" PVC, Intake with K&N filter and hacked air can, ACT2600 Clutch kit, 8.5mm Magnacor wires

first off you a retard for even puting 87 in your car

2nd off, with a stock sidemount goign past 17psi daily on 93 octain is pointless...i can pretty much guarentee you your car is kocking to shit right now runnin that piss 87. 16psi on a 16g with only a fp rewire...wow

turn the boost down and do some research before you do any more damage to your motor.

Excuse me, "you a retard"? What an aggressive choice of words to use towards someone that's innocently asking for help. I wish you guys could get off the 87 octane part, I shouldn't have even put that in. Let me try to clear things up though. The first 6 months I had my car, I ran 93 and it was bogging when I would be WOT and I could not figure out why. My friend was driving my car and he accidentally put 87 octane in, not knowing he wasn't supposed to, after that, the car ran flawlessly. It wouldn't bog at WOT anymore and it ran so smooth, so I continued using 87 octane and I've had no problems whatsoever. Of course I don't have any logging set up so I can't tell if I'm knocking. So, you guys are saying I should run 93 octane even if my car runs alot worse? I'll take your word for it seeing most of you are more experienced than myself. I just ask that you don't insult me because of me asking a simple question in which I'm trying to get help for. If I knew running 87 octane was a problem and I ignored it, feel free to call me a jackass. Considering I just did what made the car run better, I'd appreciate it if you would just help me rather than flame me.

Octane rating is only a number to represent resistance to knock. I can't think of any reason your car would run better on low actane gas. Maybe you just got bad gas reguardless of its octane rating and thought it was the octane that was causing the problems.
I'm not going to beat you over the head about using 87 octane, you've been beat enough about it. The only reason you may not see any knock now is because you've been running 87 octane for so long that the ecu switched over to a low octane timing map which aggressively cuts back your ignition advance.

Run out the pisswater 87 you have in it now, fill it up with premium (don't bother with 89 octane either), and reset the ecu (disconnect neg terminal for 5 mins) to return it back to it's normal timing map.

Get a logger. I don't know why you did all of these other modifications and you didn't purchase a logger. That should've been the second thing you bought after the boost gauge. Once you have that, crank up the boost until it knocks and dial it back a notch for safety.

The story behind that is actually the car came with all of those mods done. My first purchase was a Palm m105 but I've not came around the cash to purchase logging software and a SAFC, that will be my next investment. I'll go with your advice on running the 87 out and filling up with 93 then resetting the ECU, that sounds easy enough. I'll let you know how it works.

kind of extreme maybe...i just don't like when people go moding cars (turbo upgrades more boost) without knowing basic things like how octain works, what knock is, how much the stock sidemount sucks ect ect. i got a small 16g, 580cc's injectors, fuel pump stock intercooler and i run no more than 17psi on 93. intercooler gets heatsoaked way too fast.

So, back on topic, If I flush out all the 87 and run 93, and say put my Walboro 255 on the car, should I run 18psi then? Or just not even bother and keep it at 16psi until I get a datalogger and possibly a FMIC?

I would suggest getting the 87 out of there, installing a Walbro 255 and turning the boost down to 14psi. You really need some way of monitoring the car, X car can't run X boost with X mods. But I can guarantee 16psi is too high for the mods you have right now.

Get MMCD, its free. Then all you need is the cable, I got mine for like 20$ on ebay. To add to what is said above i would continue in this order:

1. turn down boost
2. download MMCd
3. buy logging cable
4. get bad gas out and put good gas in
5. reset battery
6. slowly turn up boost until you get a small amount of knock <5 counts.
7. decide what you need to get rid of your knock, fuel pump, AFPR, injectors, SAFC, bigger IC then buy and install it.

you can go up to #6 for less than 50$(unless gas prices go up more  )

Don't get mad if people jump on you. Sometimes we do that becasue we don't want to see another dsm blow up. At least we are trying to help.

I didn't know any of that stuff either when I first started modding. But at least he's learning.

http://mmcdlogger.sourceforge.net That's the website for the MMCD logger program. It's free, and the only thing you'll need after that is a logger cable, they're $30 off of eBay.

http://mmcdtools.sourceforge.net That's the website for the MMCD tools program that will allow you to download the logs from your logger. It'll import it into MS Excel.

Until you get that logger, turn your boost back down since you have no way of monitoring knock. Then follow my previous advice.

Here's another success story for ya, I ran all the 87 out as directed, and I found a Sunoco here that has 94 octane for $2.46 a gallon (ouch!). I put some 94 in, runs even better than before so I plan on using that from now on. I also have my datalogging cable for my laptop on the way from ebay ($8.99) so I can actually run the car without destroying it now. Thanks for all your help guys!
