I have a 91 Laser 1.8 5sp. If i put on a K&N Filter, Did the Air Can mod, Dryer hose mod for cold air, and Pacesetter Exhaust, how much HP gain should i have? How will it sound? Any power differences at all? PLEASE be detailed. Im still learnin and would like to do these mods to my car, i just want to know more about them first.

Thanks, SR

Hey SR,
I don't know much about the 1.8 liter cause I have the 420A, but with those mods you will probably gain 8bhp at the most. It will sound different though.Don't know if I helped but I tried.

i've got same mods on my 2.0 but i also gutted the cat and have a header installed. i'd assume i'm around 150 at the flywheel now. i also have done some other minor things but i am sticking to that guesstimate.

Thanks, I was begining to think that nobody really cared about the 1.8 Thanks again,

Jesse

Well, I have a Weapon R intake and the regular stock exhaust and it sounds pretty mean at higher RPMs. I also have a 420A also, if that really makes much of a difference. Putting a new exhaust on will definitely make things sound different. My suggestion would be to find other folks, even if they are Hon-Duh owners (*This is the ONLY time I am going to ever recommend this*), and ask about different types of exhaust systems and see which one sounds best to you for the price range you want to stick within and go with that. That would be my suggestion.

What do i have?

You said you had a 420A. What do I have?

Thanks, JEsse

I heard somewhere in the forum that the code for the 1.8 was 4g73....this seems kind of strange to me, though. Wouldn't a smaller engine have a smaller number? I dont even think the blocks were designed near the same time either, were they?

I think it is 4g93, smaller engines don't always have smaller numbers.
The Lancer/Mirage (i assume it is the same 1.8L in the DSM's)had a 1.5L SOHC(4g15),a 1.6L SOHC (4g92) and the 1.8 SOHC (4g93). There ia also a 4g64 which is a 2.4L used in the 2g n/t spyder. (all mitsu engines)
420A is a Chrysler engine.

There is quite a difference between the base HP numbers of the 1.8L vs 1 & 2g 2.0L engines. (the actual Lancer 4g93 has about 114 BHP more than likely due to minimal if no emissions equipment.)
1.8L N/T, 92 BHP
1g 2.0L N/T, 130 BHP
2g 2.0L N/T, 140 BHP

Not like this means much, just sort of babling :)

Anyway, here is an interesting site for 1.8L performance upgrades too bad it is in Australia. :)
