Wierd burning smell - could it be from spraying wd40 on engine? maybe clutch ??

I've got a 98 GS-T Spyder. A few days ago I sprayed some wd40 by the exterior clutch parts in the engine area in my eclipse and it seems like I am getting a wierd type of burning smell.

I also sprayed the interior clutch assembly with Lithium lube to get rid of a squeak (and it worked)

Anyway, I never sprayed wd-40 in the engine compartment before . . . is it most likely the smell is coming from this . . .

or

Could it be from the very hot weather that this smell is from the lithium lube in the car . . .

My only other alternative could be the clutch itself but it is not giving any type of symptons of slipping. Being concerned, last night I took it for a ride and did some testing on the clutch in different gears, low rpms, high rpm's and all different speeds and the clutch is working perfectly and there was no smell either from the car at all last night. I opened the engine area afterwards and just to make sure there wa no smell.

I even went down a long hill in my area in 2nd gear at a constant 4000 rpm's with my foot off the gas to see if it would slip and the clutch didn't

Could this smell just be the wd-40 ? ?

Thanks for your response !!

If this started happening right after you sprayed stuff down, then yeah, more than likely just from the stuff you sprayed.

I accidentally got some motor cleaning stuff (cant remember the name, something similar to the MCCC stuff) on my engine... when it heats up it starts burning that stuff off. I even get a little bit of steam from the stuff burning off... not to mention a smell. Give it time, it'll go away..... assuming thats the culprit :D
