Hey man, just got finished reading through your log and looking at all of the awesome pictures that you posted. I'm getting ready to do a rebuild on my 90 GST and this info will help tremendously. Thanks for putting in all the effort for the benefit of the members here.

Hi!

Hope it was good reading.. :) I've never done this before, so my way of doing might not be the engine-builders way to do things.. But what helped me, think things over 2-3-4times, plan ahead, take alot of pictures, AND USE PLASTIC ZIP BAGS you put old parts into, and mark them good(location on engine + name)

I just hope my thread can help others.. :) Thanks!

I think I'll throw in a teaser when I'm at it.. :)

The car got a little oil coming through the intake side of the car, leaving a oil-film and a little oil on the bottom inside of all the piping from after the MAF.
I suspect the crank-case ventilation from the valve cover, because I'm able to see fresh, wet oil inside of that hose when I look into it.

So my next mission is fabbing up a oil-catch can in stainless steel. Any input on design is appreciated.

After alot of internet research, I've concluded with something similar to this:

Image

I got a 3" stainless pipe for my base can. :)

After I'm finished fabbing this one up, I've got a Hahn SMIC coming in! :)

Did I mention that I've already installed FIC 1250 Bluemax injectors?

I will go E85 in the close future, to see how that work out for me. :)

Hi guys!

I've started a little on the can. Made a set of top and bottom for it. Since I don't want ugly welding on top and bottom and make a sharp edge, I fabbed a stamping tool and by the help of a 10ton press these came out of it! :D (After some grinding and cutting of extra material..)

Image

Now I'll get a nice radius on top and bottom, and a nice welding on the sides. I used 1,5mm stainless sheetmetal on them.

My darn 3" stainless pipe intended for this catch-can have gone missing, so no welding today, probably not before after this weekend. It also will need a set of connections to the hoses, and internals. :)

Any input on how long this needs to be? :)

Also, is it a good thing to run both valve cover vents to the catch can, only leaving the 1 on inlet pipe to create vacuum?

Is that a bad or good thing? I was thinking a bigger sized hose to match the capacity of the two others.

Hi folks! :)

Some more news! :) I finally got tired of my grinding 3rd gear! And the transmission have started to complain a little downhill on decel..

So now I've ordered a Premium built FWD with a Quaife from Jacks Transmissions! :) I'm also replacing the ACT street disc with a unsprung 4puck disc, for better durability, hold and better high rpm shifting! :)

Also getting a Ingalls front camber kit, got a rear in stock from earlier.

Getting clampco clamps instead of the wormgear-style ones I got.

Ordered bearings for shifter bushings, for better shifter feel.

I'm currently into manufacturing a oil-catch-can for my car, excluding the intake connection to crank case, connecting both hoses to one catch-can with a breather filter.

I've done a quick catc-can bandaid fix until I get to finish the stainless catch-can. :)

Here's the pieces of my catch-can.. :)

Grinded and ready for welding:

I don't want a sharp welded edge on top and bottom, so I fabbed up a male and a female tool, and used a 10ton press at work to shape some pieces of 1,5mm stainless steel. :)

I'm actually able to make the end's on request, 3" outside. :) Shipping might be some though.. I'll check upon interrest.

:)

In the very close future a brand new OEM center console is getting inside my car. Got a new one because of a crack in the one I got!

And the Ingalls kit's are needed to get all my angles aligned perfectly. What camber do you guys recommend for a normally street-driven car, with a occational auto-x event?

I'm also looking for a driverside 2Gb headlight, if anyone got one in good condition.

:)

Have a nice evening guys! :)

To-do list:

*Install my new Professional Products Power Throttle Body(75mm). (I got one, but that one got stuck and bent the flapper, leaving me with 3000rpm idle...)

*Install new valvecover gasket. Old one is leaking.. RTV on either side of the gasket? I didn't use that last time.

*Install used aluminium intake pipe from air-filter to turbo.

Image

*Install used Hahn SMIC.

*Install HAWK brakepads and resurface my rotors. *done* (Thank you vfaq.com!!)

*Install GM IAT.

*Replace all worm gear clamps.

*Replace low quality couplers.

*Finish my catch-can.

*Install it.

*Install ball-bearing chifter cable bushing kit.

*Install Ingalls front camber adjustment kit: 1.5degree +/-

*Install Ingalls rear camber asjustment kit: 1.5degree +/-

*Receive Jack's Premium FWD tranny. ;)

*Drop old transmission.

*Replace street clutch-disc with the 4puck un-sprung solid hub ceramic disc.

*Install Jack's transmission.

*Put oil in it! (Mental note for me.. ;) )

*Get a set of 255/50-15" TOYO PROXES R888 street-slick tires.

*Fix my front bumper cover. (If anyone got one in good shape, I'm re-painting it, so paint doesn't need to be perfect, just the shape and surface of it, let me know!)

*Fix my hood. (New paint?)

*Replace the center console, got new one already.

*Get a trunk cover plate, gray. *done*

*Install new plastic-trim parts for my seat-brackets. (Got them, needs install)

I'm sure there's more, just needed to make a list for me to remember.. ;) So, here's my plan for the summer! :D

My god, i'm surprised with your work !!!!!

I'm from brazil, i have 2 Eclipses, one of them is a 95 GST, i'm the first one in brazil in 15 years of history of this car in this country who converted an GST to GSX with everything original. People say that it's a transformer hehehe. I have this car for 5 years and half, i started the conversion this year and i finished the X-kit 3 weeks ago. It has an 98 full original Bodykit.

I bought the gearbox, transfercase, everything used for sure.... The transmission now is making some noise, not like if you are running in reverse gear, but the noise is near that..... i think that can be some bearing from transfercase, etc... i'll start to disassemble the car in the end of this month and rebuild everything needed

If people here wants too i'm intended to do the same as Join, posting the progress and asking many doubts that i know that i'll have =]

The other one is an 95 GST that i bought from a collector 1 year ago with 19k miles, everything original in mint condition, like brand new !

I'm intended to rebuild my GSX, i have more time in this car than you, but i have never had courage to do all that you did.... And after spend more than 1 hour reading your topic from 1st page i think that i'll do that !

I don't have all the tools that you have, but i'll try to buy when it's needed...

Again, congratulations for your job ! The best topic i've read this year !

Thanks for the nice words.. :)

Good luck to you bro! :) Make sure you do things right. By using more time installing, time have been saved later. (?) :D

The Premium Built transmission with the Quaife is run in now, so now it's time for some tuning! :)

A set of Toyo Trampio R881, 205/55R15 arrived a couple of days ago, so I'm getting ready for a 150m dragrace the 29th, a autoX the 5th, and a new autoX the 17th.. :)

Mabye, just mabye I'm able to use this car a little! :D

Hi folks! :)

Still alive and kicking! :p

The Eclipse is running nice, a little lumpy idle from my FIC Bluemax 1250cc injectors, so I'm purchasing the Fuel Injector Clinic EasyTune box to help power the injectors better.

New oil purchased, Redline 20W50 syntetic engine oil. Hope it support it's price, got no experience with it.

My next plan is to go Speed Density and then E85! I'm reading a good tuning book by Greg Banish, and after that he got a book about fuel injection systems I got in my shelf. N-e-e-d---k-n-o-w-l-e-d-g-e... :D
