I can't imagine how many hours you'll have grinding. I thought my engine bay took a while, lol. Good luck with it.
How many hours I've been grinding

Here we go again :)

Well my friend is always working on other jobs, that's why we can't go faster ... No other jobs = no money = no shop = no place to build a cage in my car ...

At least yesterday he told me that we need to be done by the end of the weekend since he needs the space. That was good news for me ! Here's what we did yesterday :D

Sorry again for the crappy pictures, I'll post better one once we are done.

Rear X FTW !!! :D

What are your plans for this car again? :)
 After the cage I'll paint the interior some color(s) I wont tell. ;)

Plans are simple: Push my evo3 16g to the limit and see what it does against my friends Honda' K20. Than start collecting parts for the big turbo haha

By the way I still can drive the car in the street without any inspection. So I'll try my best to get the car running for next season but things always happen in my life ... Will see :)

This is how I build cage and this is why I choose my friend Dave from Metalex to weld it in.

Yesterday after work we completed every welds in the back ! All welded 100% all around each pipe. Now you see why it's taking that much time :D

Ho yeah one last thing, I decided to disard the swing out kit, got a better idea :D

Well after some long talk we decided to keep the swing out since it'll make my cage legal for the street. The day one cop pull me out than we'll install X bar in the door.

Here's my first gusset, I'll make others on the A and B pillar. Maybe even the roof, will see how much time I want to pass on thant.

Don't know why all my pics in this garage suck ... It's dark as hell, sorry ...

Wow,it looks awesome! Really,Pat. Very nice! I've got to add on to my cage. It was certified to 8.50 but guidelines have changed since the last time it went through tech. It's a 10pt. cage but I don't think that cuts it anymore. You need that Pro-Stock style portion that goes around the driver.
Nice job, buddy. When you plan on finishin' it up?

Thanks man :D , what do you mean the pro stock portion ? Over here there's no inspection, our track aren't NHRA. The only reason I installed the swing is to make my cage legal for the street ...

We finished placing everything yesterday ;) We would have finish before if the Competition Engineering swing out kit wasn't total crap ! Here's my review, I've write it in the parts review and wanted to post it in my build also. Those kit are already installed in my car but my phone was dead so no pics.

We should be done after 2 hours of welding.

Now my review on the CO swing out kit :

This kit is TOTAL CRAP ! Do not waste your money on this because you will also loose time trying to install them while keeping your cage safe !

The upper part with the lock pin work, the probleme is the lower part. The lower part wrap around your cage, than you drill a hole to make it swing out BUT in the kit they say trim at an angle and let 5/8" from the center of the hole to the end of the tube. Well it's impossible ! It's kind of hard to explain but if the pivot is centered on the pole and the kit wrap around how do you expect to rotate inside without trimming the tickness of the pole. Yes it can work but at the end you have almost nothing left and it would be f*****g stupid to imagine that it's safe.

Dont mind why no'one show how the trim the lower pole on the net !

Here's my solution, I've spend all saturday night machining this. Now it work like it should. You see how I've trim both parts, now imagine with the Competition Engineering, you would need to trim all this on one pipe leaving almost no wall where the hole is ...

And here's my pillar and how it fit, really happy with how they turned out compare to my friends car. They don't block my view at all and that's what I wanted.

Updates?

Come on Pat!
Haha come on my friend you know I never been that busy in my life. Built has slow down because one of my employee got injured at work. I had to replace him and still do my job, been working something like 65-70ish hours/week at the shop. He just came back to work something like 3 weeks ago.

After X-Mas I started preparing my 1gen for this summer and found that she needed more love than I planned ... Coolant was like brown sh*t, infected as hell ... I think the stock cooler cracked or that the stock Japan coolant wasn't compatible with mine. That added more job, just like it alway do in the DSM world

My bike has been down all winter again, I did a few race with my friend's one ... My builder took 6 weeks to pin my damn Carillo long rod and custom CP piston. Had to balance them after throwing 5K in that build and it's the only place here in Quebec ... Now I just need time to put the motor togueter, everything is in the box waiting :)

Life goes on, I haven't quit ... I'll just be back with more found and resources to go bigger ;)

Maybe I just accepted that I'll always be late, building parts like I want take time and I'm getting just tired of yelling to have good service. Now that I play it cool, they let my parts on the side ... What a bunch of pos. Anyway I'll daily my 1gen and finished the cage in the 2gen this summer. Pillar gusset are almost ready to be weld in.

That's a good resume haha I'll update the thread on my 1gen to show you that I haven't been lazy :D
