Re: 1991 vs 1998, wich DSM to buy ?

Good lord man, 5" thick ETS race? That's some serious intercooler, I love it. What are your plans for it now?
Thanks Cracked :)

Plans are to daily it this summer, and give my stock 14b a hell of a ride haha ;)
Got some other parts in stock like v3, fuel line + afpr (on stock feed return line), new oem fuel filter, not the big stuff but you'll see. I still need to pull my engine to do my timing and bs removal. I need new ss brake line for my non abs valve, just need to find where to connect what on the valve itself ...

I'll put 10k km on the car this summer so it should be fun :)

Still waiting for all the poly I ordered, this one doesn't come in any kit so it just gave me a good reason to make a solid one.

Ok here, I wanted a Bulfab cross member but decided to keep my stock one since I like way more how my solid front roll stop fit. Now those one where really cool to build, I press all those bushing on my hydraulic press. :)

Update from weekend

Ready for clean up

My balance shaft bearing removal and installation tool :)

Boots to protect my new heims ...

New shifter end cable brass vushing installed, man they where a pain to press in with 0.002'' of fit. It's too much but hey now it works and they'll never move so it's a success.

Tested the crossmember with solid mount, perfect fit :)

Rear SwayBar Poly, custom bracket because I'm running Afco lower arm. Took me half an hour for 4 bolts since the car is on stand ... damn ... At least they are done !

Now this week I'll try to clean the engine for paint than I'll be ready to re-install timing and drop it in :)

Lookin' good, pal! When you think it will be finished? I'm so disgusted right now with the wiring in my car. I have to rip out the Haltech harness and start fresh. This time (No offense to Ivey) I'm going to do either Milspec or Painless. Like I said no offense to Sean but he didnt really do a nice neat job on the harness. But in his defense I'm sure it was one of those things where as long as it ran it was good enough. I took apart the loom and there were cracked wires everywhere. The soldering job was horrific. Some wires were actually just twisted together and held together with a mini zip tie. So this past weekend I had an older friend of mine that is a well respected racer and mechanic come over to show me his 600hp+ LS3 Caddy CTS-V. Anyhow, he took a look at the wiring and just kept shaking his head. He goes "Vincent, you know damn well this aint gonna pass tech at any track." So we discussed it and decided to use either Painless or Milspec to re-do the harness and get rid of everything mounted on the firewall. Relays and what have you. So, he said he'll be back next weekend and told me to just start labeling wires and seperate them all. Then he's going to take it to his tuner in NJ that is a really good tuner. Does tunes for a lot of local racers. Suppose to be really good. So, I've got some work ahead. But one nice thing is now I have my buddy to give me some help. I really dont trust too many people to work on my car but he's definately one I trust. He's been piloting guys drag cars and working on serious drag cars for years. I know my share but he knows more and he's got an extra 10 yrs experience on top of what I have so I'm pretty excited that he's helping. I had a 10 sec Mustang years ago and this guy helped me with the build. So I know what he's capable of. So I'm pretty excited. But the one thing I'm not happy about is that after all my work on the rest of the car I have to back track and that sets my estimated time till it hits the track a little longer....again. But atleast I know now it will be done right. Wiring is something that I just don't like doing. I have no feeling in my finger tips from Diabetes so it's really difficult to do wires when you can't even feel them. lol

Wonder how much a harness from Painless or milspec would be.

I'm gonna say at least a few hundred. I dont think Painless makes a vehicle specific harness for the DSM's but they do make a universal setup that I have researched and found that several DSM owners have used on their cars. The Milspec stuff is all sold seperately. You have to buy the pin outs and connectors and what have you. But I dont think it should be too bad. I had a local shop give me an estimate of 700 to do the entire wiring job over in Milspec. So I'm guessing less than half that for the parts. I have found several sites that sell Milspec supplies and it looks like each pin ranges from $.50 to $1.99 I would do no less than a 40 or 50 pin connector. Then you have to add in the connectors and the mounting plate, wiring, and loom cover. All said and done I think my buddy said it should cost a few hundred. I like the Milspec stuff because of it's compact, neat and orderly appearance. I saw a Civic over the winter that had a Milspec harness and it just looked so nice and clean. Plus they make a few different style mounting plates that are made of nice cnc'd aluminum. Drives me nuts that the only thing that looks like shit is the wiring. So I've just got to do it and get it over with.

I'm probably going to have my neighbor wire up my talon. He just finished wiring 8 of al-anabi's cars and it's what he does for a living. While I know it sucks to have to do this, in the end you'll be much happier and you'll never have to worry about tracking down some wiring gremlin that will be at least annoying, and at worst, cost you the car.

Wow Vinnie seriously it suck to hear that about your wiring man ... I tought you where done with it ... I'm a bit freak about that, my truck catch in fire 2 winters ago because of a short on the trailer and I'm still tromatise with that. Haven't connected a trailer since then haha :)

I won't have time to clean the harness for now, just want to plug it back and be sure that it runs good before I start tucking. I have labeled every connectors, putted green zipty around the connectors I can delete or won't use back. Yeah it will looks strange when I'll start the car but it'll save me a lot of time when I'll start to remove them. I think what took me the most time on my 2gen was finding back wtf this wire or connector was for when the harness is out of the car.

I don't really know how much time it will take to bring this car back to life ... I guess I'm just slow or damn too busy or just want to go too big too fast ... If everything goes well I should be done in 2 weeks

I still only need to buy some AN plumbing for my turbo oil feed and npt plug, got everything else in stock.

Engine is almost done cleaning, man those 22 years old cooked gaskets where hard to remove ... My thermostat housing is soaking in CLR for the last 2 days (man it really works yesterday it was almost 100% clean).

Stay tuned I won't post pics of the new parts untill I install them and just to tease you more I'm waiting for a gift from Magnus. First time of my life someone ever gave me something for my car and it's from Marco, man it's like a dream haha :D :tat:

Hell yeah Pat, take your time and do it right. I'm having to tell myself the same damn thing. Maybe...just maybe we can bring back the "Do it right, do it once" and a little bit of the "Going fast with class". :D

I know, Pat. It does suck! The car IS in running condition but the intermitten startups are forcing me to tear outthe harness and start over. The harness looks like crap and is causing other issues as well. So I kind of have no choice. But one good thing that has come from this is now I have a reason to install.

Thank you very much for the kind of words guys ! This is what keeps me in the game :)

Here's a small update, not everything but it's something. Now the only thing holding me from finishing my timing is the damn crown plug. I almost cracked my oil pump housing trying to loose it, also tryed with the oem tool at the dealer since we're friends after all these years ;) but no luck it slipped. Tomorow I'll try to weld a nut on it so I can try my 3/4'' impact on it and save 300$ ...

Tonight I'm lapping stuff, it's long and boring ... It's what we use in hydraulic to bring flange as straight as possible, with both flanges like that there would be no need of gasket to hold pressure. Decided to lap avery stuff I could, thermostat housing is done, tb elbow is done and tonight it's the exhaust manifold time :)

Flange Q45 to 1G, thanks Marco ! :tat:

I also decided to go no power steering and depower the rack. Got my torsion bar welded, can't wait to see how it handle !

Before it become an half moon it needs to be a full one, seriously I like this part. Fits like a glove on my head !

Modified my water pipe for AN :)

And now my gift from Magnus :D Thanks again you guys rock ! :tat:

Here's an update, don't have any pics since I was to busy working last weekend ...

- Engine is painted, tranny cleared
- New OEM seals for axles and transfer case
- Timing is done but I lost the nut for the oil pump gear ...
- SS stud all around the head
- Retap the oil filter housing to accept NPT instead of BSPT
- Retap and plug the thermostat housing (waiting after an oem thermostat to finish)
- Brake booster painted
- ABS delete custom braided line and valve installed
- Poly installed in powder coated mount
- Poly installed in powder coated subframe
- New Moog ball joint installed in powder coated arm
- Rear SS braided line installed
- Done painting the knuckle since I didn't wanted to mess with the bearing this year
- Some other stuff I forget ...

Tonight I'm lapping the DNP manifold, seriously the flange was wrapped maybe 1/8'' ... :(
At least I build a setup so I can go to sleep while the machine do the work for me haha :D

Well my exhaust manifold still isn't straight ... The lapping machine is running since 2 days now. I don't know how the last user made it seal but now I think I know why he sold it to me 100$ and sent an ebay gasket with it lol ...

I started to deal with RTM Racing, awesome seller and I now get my parts the next day instead of 2 weeks. Makes things way more easier for me :)

This morning I received the oil pump nut, new oem knock sensor, competion clutch forged fork with NEW OEM PIVOT BALL ( needed with this fork ! ) ... My friend also called me saying that he'll powder coat the rest of my parts this morning (VC, water pipe and swaybar and no it's not black). Can't wait so this damn working day finish so I can bolt those parts !

Also I got an iphone 5 yesterday so I'll be able to post new pics, my iphone 3 is dead since 3 weeks ...

The end as never been this near ! WoooooooT :D
