well i always run the pure one purolator. ive never heard anything bad about them. Also, NOT all frams are bad. Well yea...maybe all except 2. There was a review i read about and it 2x Fram tough guard or something and another was actually decent and comparable to the high quaility ones.

Wow that sucks. I work for a dealership and I hate it when customers come in with FRAM filters. We use NAPA Gold filters for any car other than the lines we sell and I haven't had any problems with those.
Who installed that filter? Do you change your own or did someone else do it. I'm not sure, but it kinda looks like most of that seal was dry, as if someone forgot to spread a dab of fresh oil when installing it. Is that correct? Maybe that has something to do with the way this turned out? Just asking because once I didn't, and i used a fram. Well when I pulled it off the gasket/seal was stuck onto my engine. So not only does a little oil help it seal correctly, in the case of a hot turbo engine; the oil also makes it so it doesn't melt to the oil filter housing.

Right now I am just using Walmart Supertech Filter, or I use Puralator. I do not care for Wix filters because the threads are kinda weird on those, take forever to spin on and off because of that.

Yeah, Fram sucks.

The supertech filters seem alright, about as good as any. If I could find OEM filters cheaper then $6 I would buy those. I think the oem oil filter is pretty good, at least for lower HP car (under 300 HP).

Always put a little oil on the seal before you put the filter on, whether it be Fram, or the $30 friggin Amsoil filter..:)

my car comes with a small oil filter, according to this thread, i can use the large filter?I bought one from autozone a while back and returned it thinkin it was the wrong one. I have a 90 with the stoc external oil cooler.
Same thing here!! I had bought an oil filter, but the one they gave me was super to big. If I remember correctly the gasket was visible while attached. I returned it too thinking that it was wrong..but it didn't seem right so I'm still glad I exchanged it.

From denso. You need some ?
Lol, well I WOULD have but I went to the local Mitsu dealer and bought part number MZ690072 and it IS a Denso filter, I really appreciate the offer though and if there is anything that I can do for you in the future dont hesitate!

Currently using a Ford oil filter with no tick or any other issues and 3500K on it so far. Perfect fit and it is a "factory replacement" unit.
We will see how it fits when the T04E is going to be in there.

As far as oil filter failures go for gaskets the one i commonly come across is that people forget to lubricate the gasket before installing causing the o-ring to twist and not seat properly and oven worse the gasket will pop out and with enough torque it will shear. Also i had several customers that came and were complaining of leaky filters and after a quick inspection noticed that they never removed the old gasket the "stuck" to the oil filter housing and installed the new filter right on top of it!!!

i'm a tech for subaru and the same thing goes for their cars. all of their cars can use the same oil filter, even the 4 and the 6 cylenders use basically the same filter
I've been using a WRX oil filter on my 92 GSX for quite a while now, fits perfectly and is actually much shorter than other filters.

If you guys really are in desperate need of more room around the oil filter for say for a 02 dump than you can use a mighty max oil filter housing. Instead of pointing at the downpipe it points straight to the front of the car. So it will free up alot of room and you can use any filter you want. Plus it looks better.

^ I hope you don't wrench like you speak, type, & spell. ^ Maybe that's why frams quality is acceptable to you.

"I've had many dsm's, and I've personally build many, and i build all kinds of other cars, and maintenance many more, and I've never ever had one single problem with fram filters ever?"

Any thoughts on Deutsch oil filters? The guy that built my engine recommended them to me. I've been using them and cut one open last oil change and was actually surprised between that and the Purolator I had been using. It seemed to get a lot more "gunk" out, but was wondering about others experiences with them.

What experience does anyone have with the K&N oil filter? There is one on my motor when purchased. How are they in comparison to anything else?

Thanks for the info on different oil filters so far...didn't realize some many people had not so great usage with fram filters.

Currently using a 3kVR-4 Fram TG oil filter on my Tsi. And i've never had problems with Fram.
